its roleplay - a luxory liner is like a flying mega hotel. - a yacht is like a flying suite. - with your personal staff. - only a RP difference. the protection of the guns is more symbolic, yes... however... don t underestmate the mobility of a kusari destroyer with 5 cruiser guns... i don t say its defenseless... i just said, its not as efficient as a military grade ship.
but be asured, a good pilot could still take out a worse pilot in a gunboat easily with such a ship.
this ship would be among the smallest destroyers in the game - admittedly ... the worse when it comes to weaponry, too. a bomber is always a problem - think about it though... if you re an unlawful VIP... your most common enemies will fly fighters - and those will have no chance to penetrate a cruiser shield.
like the LPI has shown... the bombers are their SWAT team. - you don t see them around on a common base. so, against the most usual attackers, such a ship offers at least as much protection as a liner ... AND it can fly into asteroids for hiding much easier than a liner can.
Considering the fact it has no armor (that not only affects the hull value but also the nanobot repair efficiency) and the cruiser damage/energy balance ATM (i don't know what's in store for 4.85) it certainly will not be able to take on a mediocre (not newbie) gunboat pilot.
But I predict a major gunboat nerf for 4.85, and a slight cruiser boost, so I guess it will be even in firepower. Still, the fact that a gunboat may have up to 600K in hull (lunchbox with MKVII armor) and better repair per nanobot (nanobot repair is multiplied by armor multiplier), it will still drain easily.
Give it something like Class5 FIGHTER turrets, 6-8 of them, and shrink it to the size of the BHG Gunship.
It's a pleasure yacht, or at most a fast transport. Keep the cargo size at maybe 200-225, dump the armor to maybe 50k, give it the maneuverabilty of a spatial, and call it good.
My idea of a VIP yacht, or ANY yacht, isn't some big hulking piece of metal, it's a small, sleek craft able to skim through space.

You don't know how it will look like in 4.85. But one thing is sure. Capital ship balance will be completely changed.
So don't be afraid, it will still be more powerful then any Gunboat in game.
Kusari destroyer has only 2 rear turrets. Still it's the most feared ship from Destroyer/Cruiser class.
It has pros (small size, agile) and cons (if CD'd it's good as dead).
I like the design. Who will produce it? Samura? Kishiro? Or maybe even OSC?
And your stats, cmfalconer, are out of order.

Something with transport/gunboat manuverability and fighter-grade turrets would never kill -anything-. Fighter turrets are limited to 750m range, at most - while all capship weapons have a range of 1000-1400m or more. Even transport guns have a 1000m range.
Guns arent going to help if they cant hit your target.
