For any inspiration, I'd suggest modellers to browse through the FL ship textures and look in detail to all the components there are, quite interesting. Gives you a good general idea of how a ship should looks like.

Two things to add:

Borderworld Line:
Naming Patterns: Named after types of swords.
Hull Shapes: Can't really explain. Basically, bluish, greenish, grayish metal and sharp angles (except the Falcata and Waran, but those aren't really considered BW)

Pirate Line:
Naming Patterns: Named after types of dogs.
Hull Shapes: Can't explain either, except that they have brown metal, red fins, and are very bulky and large.

Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams
Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction
Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid
Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space
Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits

Liberty and Nomad Backstory, Very interesting - read it!

Bretonian ships are just plain ugly.

In an abstract manner pirate fighters do look in fact like canines.
The interesting one is the Bloodhound/Hyena model. Nowadays many people have the prejudice of rogues on dirty motorbikes and once more in an abstract manner it is looking like one.
They are not bulky. They are slim, but tall.

Depends on who you'd ask, i find them wonderful, but not as beautiful as Libertonian ships. But i must admit, the Bret Dessie is propably the most uggliest ship in game. Asteroid fields must be a pain.

Corsair Line: Named after roman Soldiers, such as Legionnaire, , Centurion, Legat, but also with a bit influence of mythology, such as Titan

Hull Shapes: Ships are brown, rusty looking bulky things. Look like heavy armoured things.

NO GOD-DAMNED SUBMARINES:

That ship is a DIRECT RIP of the GATOR-Class Scout/Stealth SUBMARINE
from what is essentially a "1995, Underwater (Submarines) Freelancer" called "Archimedean Dynasty" by BlueByte.

Mumynoids? If it werent for us mumynoids you'd have a big blue tentacle beast in your chest right now!

I disagree... partly. I really like the cavalier and bretonian gunboat, and the bomber is 'ok' - but the destroyer, battleship, and heavy fighters are pretty bad looking...

Hm... never heard of that game, was it any good?

BTW, the hacker gunship isnt a 'real life airplane' - it's a custom model, but the guy who made it is no longer playing disco. I rather like how it looks, and it fits the faction well.

On the note that it was 1995 to 1998 in which I played that game, yes, Archimedean Dynasty was QUITE GOOD.

It even ends in you getting a "Pwn all" class ship, and "Pwn all" class guns, and fighting evil Post-apocalyptic Aliens in submarines... >.>
