Quote:So many of you whine and moan about ganks (I used to, but after being in the XA and Reavers....well you get used to it or you get kicked out)
I may remind you some episode about a manta...
Either way, we're here to have fun (at least, I am), and I don't find anything funny on getting ganked. Of course I did gank not very long ago, and I complained when I was ganked. However some dude showed it to me, and hopefully I've fixed that part.
Have fun and let others have fun, imo. That doesn't have to mean fairness, some people enjoy 3 on 1. Personally I don't, but meh. Just have fun without ruining others.

To me, it just boils down the maturity level of the player regardless of what their chronological age is. That's why I've finally given up on telling people to 'follow the golden rule' or 'it's only a game'
When someone expects to be ganked & they go off & gank someone, to them, they are following the golden rule.
The juvenile concept of 'RP at all costs' & 'fairplay is oorp' imo is harmful to server gameplay & an extremely stupid way to justify not being a good sport on the whole, but unfortunately it's simply the norm now & needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
besides, if you win, you get to boast, if you lose, you get to blame the other crew for not using fair numbers. win-win

The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the way of the samurai.

This is news to me. I had enough unsupported claims of ganks from Reavers when running BAF that I had to make the policy of "if you don't have screenshots, don't bother me."
This is not mentioning the chats I'm in on Skype where I see the complaining.
Lets not be hypocritical here.
Frankly, the only important thing here is the context. Some ganking is okay. When you do it intentionally to the extent where the opposing side doesn't even have the ability to have fun out of it, than it's not okay. Having a chance to win isn't as important as the chance to have fun. Also, there is the matter of how often it happens. A gank here and there is okay. If you gank your opponent every single time you fight, than that's just you being unsportsmanlike and wanting to win at all costs on a game.
Speaking of unsupported claims. Looks at your post
*laughs to himself* Hypocritical? Yep. Your post most defiantly fits that bill.
I do agree with the bottom part though, very much the same point I've made earlier.
....you actually ruined it, and seeming how many have been, it's:

Since seriously, I've been ganked like everytime, and I can agree with dab: this is still a Game, it's supposed to be fun and has to be fun because that's what they're for.
Ganking is K as long as it's fun and the dude getting ganked is so awesome he can take on a 1vs5 and win and be a one-man army, BUT if it's against a completely unskilled newb.... That's just not right, it's no fun to be out of a system (especially the one a player hangs around most) for 4 hours.

Back when I was in =CR= it was what we called "Panzer Doctrine" - basically, you kill the enemy at all costs, and that is legitimate military rp - as someone said earlier, your squad isn't going to hold back to make things "fair" in a real military engagement. The idea being, the quicker you kill the enemy, the less time they have to kill one of you - but yeah, that's real life. In this game, no one dies, there's nothing at stake but pride. As for =CR= when we had to fight tons of ranseurs everyday, from outcast indies who didn't care about fair play most of the time - Panzer Doctrine made perfect sense.
But it still made =CR= a pretty disliked faction because of it.
I've done my best to make sure I don't follow the same path. It has nothing to do with whether I believe in the RP or not - because that's largely unimportant. I do it because its important to generate goodwill toward the faction, which is really needed. The moment it seems like my guys are ganking, I have people in skype chewing me a new one about it. Its very clear that I will lose friends if I go back on my word. My guys don't understand that, and some of them think ganking is perfectly legit rp. Whether I do or not is irrelevant.
What gets me is the naked hypocrisy in this thread. Lets face it, we all hate getting ganked. Why? Because we all want to win, blue messages feel good, winning feels good, its a confidence boost - so when we lose, and it was pretty obvious we didn't have a chance, then that sucks - its sucks bad. It very easily translates into anger against the folks responsible. You would think the folks who can actually pvp pretty damn well wouldn't care either - what was the word? challenge? except there the ones that get the most offended when it happens - just read the faction feedback threads - its all there. I can post some pretty interesting skype logs, full of tons of very unfriendly words about me and my faction, just on the assumption that I organised a gank.
So why don't we all just tell the truth? We all want to win, no one wants to die without a chance. But guess what, that's the nature of the beast. If I flew against Kaze, hell, I can call that a gank, because I never had a chance to begin with - the skill is just too different. Do I justify a force multiplier to balance the skill difference? No, I don't. I shut up, and I die, because I know it will just make the person happy. I thank them for the experience of learning not a damn thing, except how to flail around uselessly, and probably become the butt of a few jokes in skype chats im not in.
But guess what - thats the game.
So, lets just tell the truth - we all want to win, we don't want to die - we just want to have fun. If dying is fun, and it has been for me on some occasions - then great. If winning is fun, and for me sometimes its sucked, then great. The truth is, people's feelings are gonna get hurt, and their gonna get offended, regardless. Threads like this one are useless.
So lets just play the game, and do our best to have fun, and when we don't, we sandwich rules, and stop with the hate. Because that's the hardest part.
I like taking a group of friends on anti-military unlawfuls and go on a pitch and fork party, burning anyone who is not green.
It is rather therapeutic.

This is not mentioning the chats I'm in on Skype where I see the complaining. So I guess the BAF is complaining about the Reavers blowing them up? I'm still not sure what this has to do with my intro. But, you know, whatever. I'm Dab.
