Do
Do join a faction
Don't
Don't buy a capital ship,
Don't ever think of buying a capital ship
*Sighs.* The line is needed once more.
Welcome to Discovery.:)
Put shortly, join a faction and do not buy a capital ship, as this will bring about the next apocalypse and will instantly make you OoRP. Adminstrators and Moderators should never be challenged even if they are wrong as they are not wrong and you are simply a paranoid schizophrenic should you ever even have thoughts of corruption, something slightly amiss or bias.
Should you need any assistance, feel free to add me on Skype or PM me and I should be able to point you in the right direction.

Unlike me, I'm pro at making it look like I actually have an opinion on the topic.
Except in this post.
I'm feeling rebellious.
All depends what you want to do.
Tell me, what do you like doing in Freelancer most? Fighting? Now is it unlawful or lawful? Mercenary? Freelancing? Exploring?
And yes, it counts like a capital ship.
But get it anyways.
You see, the reason why all of us advise against capital ships is that little people actually like to RP with them, and just buy them because they want the biggest ship.
Seeing how you regged at the forum, I will suppose that you are interested in RP.
Advice on RPing a cap? Well I don't have much of it but here it goes:
In many ways just like RPing a normal character, just keep in mind that a capital ship has crew, so you can RP multiple people on the "command bridge".
And about choosing a ship, I'd rather recommend you choose who you want to be first, and then we will advise what the best ship for it is.
I hate to be corny but, With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.
Meaning, buy whatever you wish, but try to RP it, and use common sense.

Cheers for that, Swift. Mostly, all I do is fight, and most of my missions are lawful.
I like the look of a Bretonian Gunboat. On the wiki, it seems to have good stats. I do most of my missions for Bretonia anyway, so it'll fit into my RP'ing, but will I have any problems with Kusari?
I never really go to Kusari anyway, so access there doesn't really matter.
I looked up the IMG gunboat in the Wiki, and it has less armour, guns, and cargo space than the Bretonian gunboat, but is cheaper and looks a lot better. At the moment, I prefer the Bretonian gunship, but I've got a long way to go before I can afford either, so my mind might have been changed by then.
