In relation to interdictor ships.
They are ships that whack up a 'field' that disrupts all cruise. Used extensively in Star Wars for traps and to guard places.
We had some issues with this type of ship in a Star Wars mod I was involved in.
Essentially it worked by launched a wide range (10k or something) CD constantly, or every 5 seconds or so. It would blow up even without a target to hit and so disrupt cruise even if the ship is on it's own. (No one to hit with the cd to take others out of cruise)
They were especially needed since cruise in this mod was essentially a form of Hyperspace jump, just called micro jumps. Speeds of thousands, so you got to the centre of a system in less than 10 seconds. Charge up time was long enough though.
Basically - Can be done, has been done. Has issues however, NPCs will go insane and it doesn't work 100% of the time (Though that was mainly due to player stupidity in using it)
Well, the idea for placing it on a dedicated Gravity-Well ship is mainly to prevent abuse, as the idea is it would disrupt thrusters as well. However, ships would still be able to turn and line up their weapons, so anything with a SNAC or two would be able to defend themselves. The things would mainly be used either to 1: blockade trade routes, or 2: equal odds when dealing with large swarms of high speed fighters
Problem is, it would gimp both allied AND hostile ships, so it would be best paired with a Gunboat. Of course, that leads to the problem of potential abuse by a determined capwhore. Though, it's potential for legitimate RP use (Liberator Spam -> RM Gravwell + RH gunboat? Redcats? Etc.) as a tactical asset is solid.
The limiting factor would be the fact that it's on a dedicated vessel, with no other weapons, and it drains both the Energy AND Hull of the ship it's on. So, it's not as simple as letting energy regenerate, you have to worry about hull interigty. And when combatting one, just bring along a gunboat.

Though, that's really hypothetical. The M-Harpoon may be more practical and less abusable then an area gravity well projector. Beyond it's use as a weapon, it may also be usable by Repair ships or heavy lifters to tow ships and objects around.
Number 6 is awesome. Imagine the following scenario:
Pirate/Lawful drop your cargo! Trader sure here you go <activates bomb> <jettison>.
<Tractor in>
OH NOES!!!!
Zzzt .............. BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!
MSG: Player B has Killed Player A using ninja tactics.
Or the following:
Manhattan
CSV flies by.
<Jettison Shield Batteries, Nanobots, and an armed bomb.>
Rookie in starflier flies by.
Oh look free stuff!
<Tractor in>
Zzzt .............. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!
MSG: Player B has Killed Player A using ninja tactics.
Been here since Discovery 4.77 (lurk mode engaged)
Zapp Wrote:I have recently met and discussed with Atalawohisdi the trader that flies the Caribe. Just so everyone knows, I engaged in Sigma 13. He flies through half the system before going back to New Berlin, where he cruises from one side of the system to the other, hugging the sun as close as he can. All the while, he flies near Battleships trying to scrape me off. I finally send out the white flag, and move back to Sigma 13. However, it was a ruse, and he bit. Knowing his trade route, I interdicted the trade lane and the chase began anew. It ended, an hour after it began, with me retreating, out of Countermeasures and getting very irritated.
He kept boasting how he has never been caught; I'd like to see him beat until he begs to pay, then beaten some more.
Shockwave weapon, maybe? Upon use, this weapon releases a large spherical mass of energy in a range of 1km in all directions. It disables all shields, but does little damage to hull. It can only be mounted by Cruisers or larger in their respective class 9 or 10 slots. It requires the entire powerplant to use.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
Bubble shield: Projects a large sphere around a capital ship that fighters can hide behind for extra protection, however, the ship that's projecting it has a weakened shield, and it absorbs damage both ways. (Friendly shots are blocked, too) It is very useful for covering fighters during a retreat or getting them through enemy lines with minimal damage.
Radiation shield: This shield type blocks all radiation damage to a ship, but two types of weapons are most effective against it rather than one.
Bubble shield is actually sort of a good idea, and probably easy enough to do, as we already have bubble shields (the one around Tekagi's arch) ingame. Though we need to make it so Ships can pass through, and not weapons.
I would also purpose that some Pirate Bases may have fort shields, which would be larger bubble shields. This is to deter to some degree people chasing Pirates back to their bases and create an RP reason for the bases not being destroyed.
As for Radiation shielding, I have a similar Idea. Instead of it being a shield, it should replace normal armor upgrades. It prevents or massively reduces Radiation damage, but dosen't offer any or as much of a health multiplier for ships. So, therin lies the tradeoff.
reading through there are so many ideas here i love i started off with the idea to quote them all and say it was good but there were too many.
i thought maybe a kinetic kill weapon which fires hyper-accelerated physical matter (i.e. a classic gun), basically it would do the same damage vs all shields, or maybe knocks off enemy turrets/thrusters etc more effectively than other guns but less effectively than missiles.
I always thought that the biggest thing I've seen missing in this mod is Cap vs. Cap weaponry. Yes there are mortars and such but my thought was that caps should have the equivalent of torpedoes. Long/Medium range (a few K) with speeds of 50-150 m/s. This would mean caps would have ranged "torpedoes" for use against other caps. And it would add something for fighters to do as shooting these torpedoes down would save friendly caps alot of damage.
Torpedoes!
