Well, that warranted a small re-edit on Vagrant Story, because it truly is one of my favorite games in style and content :) It really tore PS1 to it's limits with it's movie scenes (which were not pre-calculated CGI). One of those games that make you jealous of having to use a PC, where "code optimize" means buying twice the processing power.

And the story really is something else, much darker and mature than any Final Fantasies ever had. But no wonder, there are multiple straight references to Shakespearian novels, for example. Monster design is beautiful, and the gaming mechanics of additional damage increasing the mortality risk of the character very nicely thought and played out, even if constantly gulping risk-lowering herbs got tiresome after a while.

Anyway, it's Different. I think that's something very respectable for a game these days.

Edit:

For those who haven't played it, the protagonist upon experience gains attacks causing different ailments and effects, which he can combo by timing the attack right until - eternity. However, this increases Risk which is the mortality meter for the character. Also, every part of the protagonist's armor and weapons (from gloves to helmets to kneepads etc) gains experience, and alignment against the species it was hit at or hit by, while gaining weakness for the said species' counter-alignment (this are random, so you can in time create some uber-weapons or armor). Then you can forge some new armor or weapons from those parts, increasing their durability or effectiveness with some, what, ~1000 different parts and ~7 different materials available to combine. It's sick!

Edit 2:

Now I started missing the game. Still playing.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GOTY Edition (Bloodmoon & Tribunal Expansions)

Such a fab game. Long but certainly epic.

In the duty of war. There is no substitute for someone who has already accepted death.

Favorite games besides FL? Well thats hard..

I am a FPS dude. Battlefield series from EA Games would be in my top three. Along with Morrowind Elder Scrolls III and Oblivion and of course World in Conflict and Fallout 3.

But overall best game absolutely ever....
Freelancer. I am sorry but I dunno so far I have found NO space sim that beats FL.

It is every citizens right to preserve their morals and their beliefs. However, it is every citizens DUTY to bring about equality.
Capitalism is based around taking advantage of the working class to increase profits. People like you and me are only a dollar sign to them. It is our duty to show these Capitalists what the true meaning of a revolution is, it is not just radicals fighting for change. It is the PEOPLE fighting for what is RIGHT, what is TRUE!

Marxism is the true and right ideal that we should all embrace. Communism is the process in which that ideal is accomplished. The people of Sirius just need pure leaders who will to the end remain incorruptible.
Are you one of those leaders?

Best game that I have ever played is Freespace 1. When I first started it I saw the intro and knew that it was going to be awesome.

Freespace 2. Remains my favorite game. Freelancer is my #2. Back in my younger days, I was all about Runescape. It's a good young person's MMO.
