Maybe a new section should be added to the rules....
On another server I have been looking at , they have such as section in their rules specifically to deal with Pirates.
The section deals with such things as; what ship types they are allowed to fly (it is up to Cruiser, *BUT* only vs other Cap ships), what they *must* have ID/Faction wise to BE a pirate, how much and what is reasonable to ask for and so on.
' Wrote:Pirating should be allowed *only* with the Pirate ID. I am going to enforce this to keep piracy under control. There won't be an option to pirate with Freelancer ID or other neutral IDs.
That is, if you pirate, you have to clearly state your roleplaying status. Pirating without appropriate ID = server rule violation.
On all pirate IDs, it's clearly stated that piracy in capital ships is prohibited.

Forgive me, but I wish to point out, as a pirate, the prohibition is on demanding cargo in capitalships. However, it does not prohibit one from vaporizing a target, with warning of course (i.e., run, victim's name), and then searching through the debris-field for hidden treasure.
A loophole I have ruminated over using. Haven't yet, but it allows for interesting possibilities:)
Sincerely,
OsoRojo, hoping for name change soon to (H.S. Rancor)Cpt.~OsoRojo
Well if you feel the need to use 'loopholes' ... Its been made fairly clear now what the state of affairs is here.
Lets not give the mindless more ammunition to use in this already sorted situation.
Just don't effin' pirate in any way in a capship ...

As a pirate, it is our nature to "break the rules," hence the term pirate. Colonies have unbelieveable resources at their command, where as, pirates are limited? Using the rules against the Colonies, and breaking them, is the pirates only advantage. Now, if a loophole is present, which it is, it is a pirate's "duty" to exploit any advantage. If this is ammunition for the "mindless" then change the rules, but do not hog-tie us if we find something that gives us an edge. Traders have the ability to hire escorts to balance the equation.

This is not piracy anymore, in terms how we understand it. It is killing/terrorism.
You know that cost of loot is way less than amount of money that trader might give for free passage.

Guess we really need clear rules for that.
I see where you are coming from, however, terrorism is an act without warning, where as, i am must give warning of impeding doom. However, this is all moot since I am speaking to, in essence, the voice of God in this sector and on this subject. Overall, I am only attempting to point out if some are using Capitalships, technically they are within "the Law," however, solution is to rewrite the rules on ID infocard, and include in server rules since it is also not clearly spelled out there as well.
I, however, have not used the loophole for financial gain. It is inherently poor sportsmanship. Just a mental and abstract exercise.
Come on Oso, thats a crock, RP or not. The rules do say don't do it ... Period. Your 'Giving an edge' speech
there, is just encouragement for other to try to exploit this, though possibly with far less guile than you ...
Hopefully Igiss is going to make this perfectly clear very soon now ...

I am curious, where?
"1. PvP Rules
1.1 PvP in New York is prohibited. In this system, players are not obliged to roleplay.
1.2 If a player is attacked*, he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking. There are no restrictions for self-defense.
1.3 Attacking characters of level 29 and below is prohibited. Characters under level 30 can be attacked only (1) if grouped with another character of level 30 or higher, (2) if spotted on site of a clan battle, and (3) if the attacker is himself level 29 and below.
1.4 Characters escorted by another character of level 30 or higher can be attacked regardless of their level.
1.5 During a PvP combat player who was killed 3 times should leave the fight, unless sides specify another limit of deaths before the combat begins. Sides should specify goals of the fight and exact time when it begins (and ends).
1.6 Self-killing with a Nova-type weapon or any other weapon is counted as a normal PvP death.
1.7 Intentional ramming of capital ships (gunboat-class or larger) by fighters and other capital ships is not allowed both in PvP and in any other situations.
1.8 Using cruise and quick engine kill to boost speed in PvP fights is not allowed.
*For purposes of these Rules occasional shooting or shooting "for fun" does not count as an attack if it does not result in draining shields to 50% or lower or hull damage. Self-defense does not count as attack."
I have yet to find this rule explicitly written. I know this is generally held, but where is it written Hoodlum?
' Wrote:You *CANNOT* Pirate in anything bigger than a gunboat. Why? Cause it's frankly unfair to just about everyone.
I hear another note about you pirating in a battleship, you'll be owing me $100 million for the first offense. Second offense, it's a 3-day ban. So consider this your warning.
And yes, I'm the senior admin as I own Discovery 24/7 Server.
I'll just use this one again for now, till Igiss has the rule inserted ... The use of ships is on your IDs where it says 'limited'.
Why do we have to drag this one up every two weeks now, when its answered everytime ...

@Oso... do you read other people's posts before beginning to write? In this thread, just some posts before yours, the same point has alredy been discussed. You're right, the rule is not in the post you've quoted, but in the forum there are already many threads discussing piracy... at least 3 just in the last two weeks!!! For instance, PLEASE, read Wolf's posts in Manhattan Bar Thread. And... as I've already said, since admin are not paid it's quite unfair (just to be polite) to expect they update, 24 hours every day, the unique thread that your Majesty *ironic* seems to be willing to read. Come on... you can spend ten minutes more in reading the forum...
