That's a poor excuse. Many other factions have inferior VHFs to their opponents, but I don't see them complaning, or spamming capital ships. The Templar, springs to mind, first off. And the Greyhound, which is a VHF with 4 guns, less armour than the Eagle and certainly not faster than it.
But sure, buff the Manta. It won't change peoples' mindset, though.
Manta was balanced properly. It may seem a bit "wrong" on paper, but with BHG guns manta is failry great and wreacks havoc against said Titan and Sabre. I don't remember Nephs being tested against it much. But hitting a Neph with 750 m/s weapons is as easy as pie.
In short it's balanced well enough that pilot skill takes 70% and loadout 25% in a victory. The ship balance only counts for some 5%. Get a better loadout for it... try 6 buckshots + starkiller, or go for some missiles. Manta with it's good turn should really work with missiles.

hm, your proposed stats make from it stronger and faster ships as both opponents (titan/nephyst) when you will stronger armour and powercore, then less agility as have both of them.
dont forget that corsair ships are maked as tanks, slower, but stronger. and manta is not so strong, but more agile.
It makes sense Tic. I agree with it also, I personally fly a Manta because, well, its fun. Getting to attack the order, corsairs, outcasts and usually alot of them in a fighter is fun.
Maybee the reason that the Manta was made inept is because they had to balance out the fun :laugh:

Templars are actually pretty nice ships, little on the heavy side, but awesome strafe. Greyhounds aren't the main VHF in the pirate line, and the Warewolf is a pretty awesome multi-role tank, with the aditional CD slot and the huge armour...probably gonna get me one again...
The reason that the Manta is out there is that it's supposed to be a tougher, heavier armed, and stronger version of the Hammerhead.
But when I've taken mine into combat - I find I have to have at least one missile, because my guns just drain power to quickly. I try to line up the target - start shooting - and after about 5 seconds, I'm out of juice. You get out against NPC's in O-15 with that ship and you're fighting for 20 minutes just trying to take two fighters down.
Manta is not going to become slow turning heavy armored ship.
We are still following vanilla here, where Titan and Anubis were really slow and heavily armored, while Barracuda was rather fast, but big from the side.
Neither is it getting any bigger powerplant. The powerplant that Titan and Nephthys have are together with Werewolf the only "heavy" powerplants on any VHFs.
Manta uses same plant as Wrath/Avenger/Greyhound/GRN VHF/Greyhound/Ravens Talon ++.
I own a Manta myself and it's way faster than it was in 4.84, as to it being easy to hit... well I fought 6 Keepers bombers with it in a 2vs6 fight and the they were barely able to keep my shield from recharging up. They were not able to do hull damage.

To compare upwards turning speed in % is simply irrelevant.

I have a Bounty Hunter in a Manta who has fallen to Das Wilde.
While this itself is far from the norm, I was confident enough in a Manta in 4.84 to fight a pile of Corsair RTs (because so very few Corsairs flew Titans) and win. Nowadays I'm confident enough that I'll also likely be able to RP effectively mid-fight.
IT seems to me like that aswell... It's about as fast as a sabre and buckshots 750 speed is just awesome... Great range, great speed. I wonder why i never used one on the RP server, would anoyone lend me one so i can test it against a few nubs? *points at his skype jure.grbec*
