I'd say we need a bomber with only enough power to launch a nova, three forward guns, a CD/Torp and a CD slot.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
Unfortunately, without some form of bomb sight, it's nigh on impossible to do a level bombing run. Unless this does considerably more damage than a SN, you can bet I'm not gonna be using it...
I don't know if the fuse can be made for this but IF you gave the mine a time/distance interval before it activates (like can be done with torpedoes) and a slow speed, then a real "bomb" could be made for bombers.
To alleviate fighters using it, you require an energy consumption AND cargo capacity for the launcher AND the ammo. That can be tailored for different ship types.
I think it's very doable and worthwhile as a "cap ship" assault weapon. The slow speed of the mines would necessitate joint attacks by multiple bombers too.
Bombers in atmospheres have down-flying bombs. I see no need for space ones to have them - after all, why not use the increased momentum (of forward flight) in a forward projectile? Firing it backwards/below just seems silly.
