Ok so the purposes of one on one VHF or bomber PvP jousting is the way to go.. Also, doesn't your craft stop from its engine kill if you are hit by CD? It seems that you can easily end a joust by just CDing them.

jousting favours the bigger/slower ships. if you're in some nippy little thing with feeble armour and such, jousting nullifies all your advantages.

if in a fighter with a lighter turnrate, study how the other guy flies and prevent him from EKing, then just stick to his arse and watch for mines. Some good fighter jocks will EK on you no matter how many CDs you throw at them, through sheer reflexes and fast fingers beyond my skill. The trick for them is to just not get caught jousting too often if in the weaker fighter.

There's actually a ton of strats for 1v1 and group pvp, some more effective than others and dependent on skill/deviousness.

I've learned this the hard way, even against a GB.

This is where the Recycler is awesome -- two pulse shots, three razors and I'm still flying.

OP here I tried out that zigzagging thing.

Battle was Virage vs Virage

OP:
Black Widow x2
Paralyzer
RAGNAROK
WILDFIRE
Adv FLashpoint

Opponent:
Firekiss Mk2 x2
DARK BLOSSOM x4

My aim was as accurate while zigzagging as jousting, but then again I don't have good aim (still gettin used to server lag), but I found that I got hit a lot less when I was zigzagging. Then again my opponent did have much more experience and unifrom firing rate than I did.

SO basically, instead of jousting, turn into a different direction, boost, and then engine kill. Use this and zigzag around battlefield.

That concludes the results of Test 1.

Let me know what y'all think.

What I do is fly straight at my opponent while strafing left and right and keeping my cursor in the middle of the screen. When I pass my target or when I'm 200m away, I drop a mine and then fly by, EK, then repeat.

The strafing helps to dodge a LOT of firepower. I was once down to a hair of hull left in my Liberty bomber (literally) and I was practicing PvP with an Outcast bomber in Connecticut. My shield was down while I had that hair of health left and I managed to dodge ALL the Outcast's shots for two passes and then managed to SN him/her.

Keeping the cursor right in the middle of the screen helps me fire right down the middle. As I strafe left and right, my cursor will inevitably go over my opponent, allowing me to get a good amount of shots on him/her. The only time I actually have to move my cursor to really aim is when I'm using my SN, Inferno, or Razor.

Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams
Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction
Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid
Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space
Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits

Liberty and Nomad Backstory, Very interesting - read it!

weapons are important in fighters. using guns with different speeds/range mean chances of hitting are less, since it screws up your aim.

if you stick with codes, get ones with same/similar range and speed. if you stick with faction guns, same thing. in the case where hullbusters and shield busters are not synced, use weapon groups.

boxing is one of the key methods of dodging while in jousts. basically, you strafe up down left right in a box, and chances of you getting hit are low (unless your opponent has godly aim and can predict your every move, or nails you with a razor/sn/torp).

If you're in a LF or lighter HF, you can sometimes stay on their ass even with them EKing, there has to be a pretty big difference in turning though. That leads me to my other point - if you want to use an LF or HF effectively, you need to fly it differently than a VHF. The specifics will vary quite a bit between ships, but that's true of most classes. Generally speaking, just don't joust in a small ship.

That's all I'll say about LFs, because I'm not exactly an expert on the topic and most people use VHFs anyway.

You're using a Virage? I've got a Freelancer Virage in Liberty, Masayuki.Minamoto. He's using a strictly store-bought setup, no codes. Your opponent had a lower projectile speed, which makes aiming a little harder; a test against mine would show how you do against shots that hit more often, but don't hit as hard.

Plus, it'll help me out a little. I'm more of an LF person usually. *points to sig*
