' Wrote:I hate to disagree , but nothing short of the Legate standing still and not firing at all is going to help the Mako win. Battleships are completely different from every other ship type , basicly , it's not possible for the Mako to beat the Legate with it's current weapon hard points. No matter what tactic you use , etc.
As you said, i hate to disagree with you, but if the mako can keep at sufficiant range from the legate, while using long range wapons (pulses, mortars etc.) and strafing, it is near impossible to hit, and has enough power to wear down and kill the legate (thouraghly tested). And if the legate persues, the mako can again use its agility to move away from it, while still strafing and firing (the same tactic employed by many a successfull destroyer pilot).
@DW-FED, the corsairs not only have the money to build many legates, but from piracy and simple mining of nearby feilds, they have the raw materials to build them, not to mention the stations with which to build them
i disagree, the mako don't have enough strafe to dodge fire from a talented pilot. It would have to be strafe at double its current speed to effectivly dodge a volly of mortars or pulse cannon, i should know

Not if it is sitting more than 2k from the legate, then it becomes almost unhittable with mortars and other heavy weaponary (including most BS turrets) in the hands of a skilled and experiecnced pilot.
even a skilled pilot would have trouble dodging fire from 2k. i've done this b/4 tryin to dodge fire from a osirus and it is near to impossible to at 2k. If their was a way i would have found it long ago but due to the balanced strafing you are only able to just fire and keep firing untill the target is destroyed.
I suggest we stop the discussion about funding etc. it`s beside the point.
facts are facts: corsairs have the Legate, hunters have the Mako.
1 on 1 , the Mako loses, as it should. unless there is a massive skill gap between the pilots. but even then. all the Legate has to do is fly foward and keep fiiring. then it`ll win, no matter what the Mako tries. point is: the Mako shouldn`t be able to win.
It`s comparing a GB and VHF. "gee, my VHF is more manouvarble and agile, but I still can`t win"
the 2 are completely different ships.
edit: keeping 2k distance is impossible. the difference between speed makes it so that the legate can be on the Mako`s tail before the mako can create a gap of 2k. even with the low turning speed of the Legate.

Then have you considered moving back to 3k, the legate is a BIG target and it is unlikely that you are going to miss at all, while if you strafe, the legate is hardly going to hit at all.

Ill second that.

Yes.
Though the solution in your comparison would be to get more VHFs, but i seriously hope that this does not lead to more BHG capspamming

and there you hit the nail on the head. (see Jinx`earlier post)
1 legate eats 1 mako. so to balance it out we can either:
1: buff the mako to dreadnought stats. (please god, don`t. they are different ships. not meant to fight each other head on.)
2: balance the scale by using another "weak" cap to back the Mako up, thus compensating for its weaker stats vs the Legate.
does this mean 7 Bullheads should charge a Legate? no. Does it mean 25 dessies should charge a Legate? no. Should 2 Makos charge a legate? maybe... Haven`t tried it yet. may be overkill.
still, rather can calling it capspamming, one could say weaker BHG ships need to stick togheter to be able to face their bigger, tougher advicaries on equal ground.

This mod just happens to have some nice capital ships to try out. They're here to be used. I've been on a few servers and have flown fighters up until I came here. On occasion I've flown a bomber (for event purposes), but normally I prefer to pilot caps.
As far as BHG capspamming goes, I think it's a bit of red herring. Since the beginning of the beta phase, cap numbers are down. Then again, it just may be the time zone I'm playing in. I just don't see that many. And BSes are getting rare.
I sold my BS nearly two months ago and I don't regret it. I just wasn't having any fun with it. I'd show up somewhere in Delta and all of a sudden I run into gankparty X, consisting of any number of caps and bombers. Escorts didn't help much either - when they were available. The BS is most useful in static defense and events in Lost.
Actually, some cap spamming would be interesting - by that I mean more BCs and dessies.
