I own only 4 missiles (outside TCDs) among all my 16 chars, they are all gunboat missiles. As for fighter missiles, just dodge them, i once fought a gaian on my BHG bomber (which has all buckshots, no missiles), he was in an IMG bomber with a cannonball - paralyzer combo. To beat him, all i did was make it look like i was coming in to joust, then turn away and spin, his missiles just veering off into the distance (or i simply TCDed them). Doing this i wasted his entire ammo stock and easily won the fight.
Whatever reason would make someone put missiles on their ship is beyond me.
As for the dammaging equipment, for all the disadvantages of missiles, they HAVE to have some advantages, or else they would be unbalenced. Plus, the ONLY use for cruiser and BS missiles is to blast of cruiser or BS equipment (usually go for HMs, pulse cannons etc).
I think weapon dammage is a good thing, if we didnt have it, it would be yet another unrealistic point, and a large ammount of weapons would be useless.

In my opinion, its quite hard to dodge missiles. I have... two, not including TCDs, and another two on my gunboat. THe fighter ones don't work too well, but I find that TCDs seem to win me alot of fights.
Ah... missiles... the bane of my existance. I cant hit with them (not even NPCs), nor can I evade them. Fortunately, one shield battery later and missiles aren't much of a threat. When you run out of those... then you're in a bind.
