Funny you should say that. Out of the two factionized Corsairs I've seen in Gamma this year so far, at least a third of one's chatter in the system channel was out of character and the other got into a squabble with another Corsair over shots fired (which I did not see and so cannot attest to which side was in the right, but I digress) and reduced his shield to zero and his hull to a fraction of a bar before ceasing fire. Considering that some of the best roleplayers there are on the server do play as independents much of the time, I think that an average equal between the two has just about been reached.
I spent an entire day in Gamma yesterday and much of one today, and both have shown quite a bit of promise for RP, either present or potentially so with but a little nudging. In fact, although there were a few OOC lines spoken at times, everyone involved did roleplay their characters in what I consider to be a satisfactory manner, whether they were in capital ships (which I'll admit there was a fair number of) or fighters/bombers. Yes, some independents do fly fighters and bombers. Surprising? If so then there's a problem. And not with Gamma, but with the people who shut their eyes to everything but that which they want to see.
After reading Jinx's post, I completely agree with him. If you set yourself on thinking that every second spent in Omicron Gamma is like spending time willingly in a vat of acid, you're going to feel that way too. Try opening your horizons a little bit before condemning it as a hellhole when there is in fact quite a bit of un-mined potential that just needs to be shook a little to bring it out into the light.
If the Corsair faction leaders are so set on believing that nothing more can be done, perhaps it's time to let someone else take the lead who's not willing to let a few bad experiences rule their play.
get a grip ajax. Corsair faction leaders were never expected to lead the indies, only to guide them. And thats always being done. If Sirius has issues, they should clean in front of their own porch first. Just because we shy away from Gamma does not mean we're not setting an example
I've read the rest of this post. Yeah, theres a lot of caps in Gamma. I could argue it's the corsair homeworld and what did you expect etc but frankly, I think the caps are fine. It's just the Commanders. A lot of them don't know who the corsairs are. What they're about. These commanders should know when to fight and when to let the 'little' guys do the job. They should read the laws of the corsairs. That should be paramount.
The OORP system chat can be punished if it's 'that bad'. Sadly, having been away for some time, it wouldn't surprise me if it was.
I for one, when I'm on 'duty', will enforce the laws set down by Elder Laowai regarding cargo ships travelling through Corsairdom so Rudo, if that happens again, you let me know. Screens would be useful. The council, existing as it does can still declare KoS on anyone who breaks those laws and has done so in the past. I daresy they'd take great pleasure in hitting a renegade 'cap-whore'. I know Benitez have. Infact, OPG got involved on one as well and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
I'm not the answer to these problems. We all are. Anyone who enters Gamma, be they corsair or any other ID.
There are a lot of ships in Gamma and not all are OORP. Sadly, the ones that are stick out like a sore thumb.
It's very easy for those standing on the outside to throw stones. Try getting in there and make a difference.
All corsair factions should have common ground. They should have an interest in what goes on in Gamma. Even if it's just part time.
Is it really that bad to take some time out of your day to teach an indie/new player RP conventions?
I'm not saying that the OPG needs to be responsible for indies, but it would be nice if everyone, whether it be Corsairs, Zoners, people passing through, or even Nomad players, take some time to help out people in Gamma.
I can only wonder how Gamma would be if each of us helped out a single new player there...
Thats quite alright. Everyone just needs to be clear about not abusing NFZ and things will calm down. Actually drifting from combat into NFZ does not make you immune, actually it usually just ignites the opponent.
