due to the ID restrictions, even if liners were buffed, only a few ID's can use them.
i really do like the idea of just a few gunboat turret slots and keep the rest as transport turrets. i'm not entirely sure about powercores, but the current liner core should enable firing atleast 2 standard gunboat turrets, especially if your others are small transport turrets (oooo, they have a use!)
Look, guys, before you crash this whole thing, you have to look at it from the Liner's perspective. I paid 200 million credits for a ship that gets INCREDIBLY horrible cargo mileage and USED to be able to hold it's own, but you know what:
The Royal Liner handles like a brick, even by Transport standards.
The Royal Liner gets a scant 450000 armor on 3480 cargo. For a Cap MK VIII, which is basically an essential if you're going to try and, god forbid, FLY the thing into Liberty, it gets, what is it, 3200 cargo? And then it gets pirated by everybody and their damn dog, and there's nothing about it you can do! You cannot thrust away, bases are always 40K+ away, you cannot hope to survive a lone bomber because one shot of their main gun will destroy most of your shields and there is NO way you can hit it with your undernumbered weak-ass guns. You MIGHT survive a Gunboat, but probably not, because your guns are weak as hell and he can sit at the edge of your range and pound your Battlecruiser-sized self while you can't keep a damn bead on him. Pirate Transports? Ptcha. You're doomed.
DISCOVERY, I PAYED YOU 1.1 BILLION CREDITS FOR A SHIP THAT NOW ALLOWS ME TO KEEP GIVING MOST OF THE MONEY I MAKE TO PIRATES. YOU ARE AN ASS, DISCOVERY, AND YOU DESERVE TO BURN AT THE STAKE. THIS IS NOT A BALANCE THREAD. THIS IS ME HOLDING AN ALLCAPS GUN TO YOUR DAMN HEAD UNTIL YOU FIX SOMETHING THAT IS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS DAMN GAME, WHICH I AM SUPPOSED TO PLAY FOR FUN.
Also, fools, you know damn well that the Corsair NPCs on the Outcast side of that damn minefield are way, way, way more numerous than the OUTCAST NPCS. We have told you this since that system was INTRODUCED, and you have done NOTHING about it. Then, (XORIA YOU MONSTER) we can't cut our traderoute short on a station closer to home, so we have no choice to avoid hot zones like this. I have been screwed by NPCs so many times in ANY ship in ANY system, not just Eta, that it is disgusting.
If you think I'm taking a Liner out of its context, then I ask you what the point of an overpriced, exclusive executive ship IS.
If you have to, restrict it! I don't care how or why you do it, but make it so that I can hold my own in this ship against single pirates and NPCs. In fact, I think I'll go make a thread about that now. I've been meaning to do that for a long time.
Also, the Dev forums are messed up. The last time I checked it was one random person making a bunch of stupid, biased decisions despite most people telling him it was a bad idea, and the only people with the authority to stop it standing by and watching. I check them once a month to see any ship work that's gone on behind the scenes (which, on that note, seems to have disappeared entirely; I can't find ANY ship threads. Why were they deleted?). The things I say on these forums have a much larger impact than anything said on the Dev forums because here the people have their opportunity to agree with me. On the Dev forums I'll just get sat on by the established power.

Even with 128 players i used to have like 3-5 escorts (true they were flying hawks and such) If you can't find an escort you are verbaly challanged.
Anyhow, transport guns should get more dps for a higher energy consumption... And flak turrets I'm all for them, (and missiles)
I guess I am verbally challenged, so I'll extrapolate on what I was trying to convey.
Maybe it the times I'm on, or the routes I fly, but getting an escort to fly with me (an indie) on a regular basis through perilous territory is quite a chore.
Most/many players are doing their own thing - trading, hunting bounties, pirating, escorting, events, doing missions etc., so regardless of the number of players online, few are in the right place at the right time.
And there are times I just want to be all by my lonesome.
Another thing: even with an escort (or two), it's very likely that you will lose to pirates or terrorists. If they want to take the trader out before they go out in a blaze of glory, it's relatively easy. Thus all this talk lately about buffing transportsners in general.
@Eppy: I feel for ya, but you should know better then me (a relatively greenhorn) that this is a fighter-centric game (inherent game mechanics) in a fighter-centric community (small ships = greater rp, big ships = lesser rp). As a result (my own educated guess), the best armor for a cap ship costs 980 mil, and larger vessels (military and civilian) are gimped in sundry ways in the name of balance, that most of capricious of gaming deities.
Things that might help you get some of the "fun" back into your game: tcd-less npcs + lower equipment and ship prices. I certainly wouldn't mind. Try trading in Omicron Delta in a Zoner Whale when the nomad npcs start spawning.
Everyone wants ships to be nerfed.....except the one they fly.
Everyone wants NPC's nerfed... Except the ones that defend their territory.
Everyone wants trading to be easier....except when they talk about that Loler in a BS
Everyone wants to be able to take out a transport one on one with a bomber...except when it is their transport.
Everyone wants this to be a more team oriented game....except when they just want to fly on their own.
I don't care about teams. I've always preferred flying solo except, ironically, when I trade. Alas, flying in a convoy with friends isn't really an option for me anymore. Neither are escorts, since I don't make enough money to pay for them.
I don't want anybody's ship nerfed. I just want my ship (and, for that matter, all transports, who should have SOME chance, jeeze, guys) to be as strong as it should, in all respects, be.
I'd agree with you there, Michael, except that there aren't any Outcast NPCs in Omicron Eta, and there are 12 L18 Titans with CDs sitting outside of Palermo at any given time, which is a real problem if your ship is no longer capable of combat.
I've advocated making trading better for a long time because I don't think the number of lolcaps in the water will change that much.
I hate ganking transports with lone ships. I've only pirated people a few times, and all of those times it's been in groups.
Besides, didn't you tell me that we should all play for ourselves?

Eppy, I have been blown up by Sabres in Eta sitting outside of Etna base. Corsair fighters have never been able to group up in Eta, because sitting there trying to organize means losing bots and bats before the fight. There are in fact OC npcs in Eta, so dont say there aren't. Why dont we just get rid of all NPC's in the game? Why? Becuase you want strong OC npc to defend, but Corsair npcs should be weak, thats right, I forgot.

Seriously? I never see ANY Outcast NPCs on our side of the line. Maybe, then, it's a problem with the pop zones, dear, and we should look into having it changes so that our appropriate NPCs match up with our appropriate sides of the lines.
And all I'm advocating is that we take the CDs from the NPCs. Not nerf, just make it so that they can't stop players who want to leave. You are perfectly welcome to have the CDs removed from the OC NPCs there as well.

NB: Outcast NPCs with CDs don't mount del cids in addition to their faction hullbusters...so your shield doesn't vanish as quickly, thus giving you time to run away.
