Pretty much agreeing with you here.
The Kusari Container Transport might as well be liberty... or civilian...

While this looks nice - just because the ship is made in Bretonia doesn't mean that it's being FLOWN by Bretonians. Look at any of the major long-haul trucking companies. Sure, they have their nameplate on the truck - Peterbilt, Mack, Volvo - they don't make that a major part of the paint job. You see a big orange truck going down the road, you know it's Scheider truck lines - regardless of who made the tractor or trailer. THAT kind of modifications would be cool.
Nothing personal, but I don't consider the Shire to be currently broken in any way. It has the containers under the lunch box handle now (which is how I view the ship), and it works fine.
Replace the Firefly - fix the Hitbox on the Mako - give the Harvesters some more ships. Leave the Shire alone for now.
It doesn't look so big and imposing and I can't see where all the turrets would go. On the current model the pods are enclosed, and armoured in a way, I believe you said that in its design notes.
Whilst this model is nice, it looks a bit train-ish, rather than sturdy, scarey container transport. Personally I'm a fan of the current model.
