1) Delete all files from DATA\AUDIO\MUSIC
2) Delete all files starting with "zone_" in DATA\AUDIO\SOUNDS\AMBIENCES
3) Delete all files starting with "ambience_" in DATA\AUDIO\SOUNDS\BASES
Enjoy no music and no random ambient tracks popping at maximum volume.
Or just rename them, if you want to undo it later.

cant we just disable it through REG? or something like that instead of renaming/deleting them?
I just copied and pasted them out of the directories to backup directories. Not that I'll ever actually WANT to listen to the music or ambience... I'll probably end up deleting them. I can always re-install Freelancer later if for some reason I need them.
I think that's much easier than messing with any configs.
