<strike>I'm half-tempted to create a Miner ID'd Border Worlds Transport to go pirating in... >.></strike>

EDIT: Why in blazes does the Hegemon have a cruise disruptor?

Mining is Cutthroat, yes. But if you want it to be like that, do it in the areas you can mine. It's piracy if you steal it from someone 10K from a base, or on a lane, or anywhere near a base.

It's competition if you steal it from them when they're in an ore field.

Just to back up what Magnarot said with regard to the DSE ID...

Dusty says that FLHook makes the DSE ID say they can pirate for ore.

I just went online and checked my DSE, and I cannot participate in any unlawful action whatsoever except against Rheinland lawfuls.

Yeh ok. Might as well remove it. Time to dial back mining some more.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Dusty, it seems this wild experiment we have had with mining has shown itself to be a failure. The players here obviously just dont have the sense of community and team work that is needed for this. So, lets get those Ore prices lowered....I would say by at least 50%.

And perhaps plonk a 'can hassle independent miners' line in the LPI ID below the bit about doughnuts... <.<

Honestly, though, I don't think I mind independent miners being able to pirate for ore. If the system were working as I believe is intended, in House space, they should be driven off before long - or have all their own ore robbed - by local police or House corporations, though I think this comes down to how much factions are willing/able to do there.

Edit - oh, and, by the by, if you want to see the system -working-, trundle out to Tau-23. It certainly seems to be going as intended when I'm there on my =CR= Nyx.

You're going about this the wrong way. Remove the Miner's ability to pirate, don't lower the ore prices. This method primarily hurts the miners who actually mine.

Alternatively, we could do away with the Hegemon's CD slot... why does it even have a CD?

Well this should have been obvious. I mean, it might have worked in a small community, but not in one of Disco's size. People are douches, moreso on the internet.

I support corporation (mining or otherwise) being able to do nasty things to their direct competition (BMM vs. IMG and Kruger and the Kusari corps, and vice versa), at least when away from primary House systems. It might even be OK for Miner IDs to demand ore in the border worlds. But then, why couldn't an indie trader/smuggler demand cargo in the border worlds? Double standard. Indie traders (and certainly not smugglers) aren't inherently nicer than indie miners, and I don't know why the rules would condone miners being absolute bastards while traders/smugglers have to be completely pacifistic except in self-defense.

Now, you could keep ore prices the same, and let pirates do the pirating of ore. All the pirates with Miner IDs will just have to switch and stop landing on lawful bases to sell their ill-gotten gains. There will still be plenty of miner pirating, I'm sure, just fewer lawfuls doing it.

No one has a problem with Junkers robbing miners (at least, not yet). And especially not pirates robbing miners.
