It strangely reminds me of the Arrow Interceptor. Zoner interceptor maybe?

I understand your sentiment because the Discovery mod in itself is not anywhere near Freelancer. And I'm sorry if I'm making that gap larger. There is of course, another side to that coin, which is that while you have Liberty, Bretonia, and Corsair ship designs to create spin-offs, the Zoners have none. I would also not go so far as to blame Jinx (since he is now responsible for 100% of all Zoner designs) because in my opinion it makes sense that those who live on the edges of reachable space would become bizzare and strange.

Another thing you have to consider is that ship designs for Freelancer were probably done by a handful of people working under a single Concept Art Director. Where as here you have contributions from dozens and no art supervisor.

Designs here have a tendency to either go one way or the other.
Freelancer or not Freelancer, and it's a choice the modellers are quite free to make.
It's unfortunate that the latter choice is the most preferred one most of the time.

I'd go so far as to say that your design was quite influenced by those of Jinx, as his egg-shaped split-hull is quite evident. That, however, appears to be the standard of Zoner ships at the moment.

Perhaps I'm unique in wishing to see things remain reminiscent of Freelancer, but perhaps not. I dare say that I'd to see a synthesis of the split-hull Zoner designs and the Eagle or Dromedary. That particular vein of ship might be most interesting and most promising - and most of all, reminiscent enough of Freelancer.

Cadmus, Another thing to think about though is that most of the original FL ships are basically the same thing with more wings/engines added. The originality in it is very slim, with not that many actuall choises to be made. Frankly, More zoner/generic sold ships is a good thing, and frankly id rather a break from FL designs if it comes from one of our own, as opposed to those crappy homeworld imports or such.

Lesser of two evils perhaps...

Freelancer design = blocky, angular, low-quality

You cant blame people for wanting ships that looks a little more refined, more smooth, more high tech. The "freelancer style" we always ask for in models is basically the same as asking for someone in the modern age to replicate graphics design from 10 years ago. We have the potential to make something far, far better - but we keep limiting ourselves because we want to keep continuity between all of the game's ships and other graphical features.

In some cases, I think that attitude is simply holding the entire mod back.

You are right on the money, sir.

If I get the chance to work on a heavy fighter class design, I will try to use original border world / civillian ships as references. It will be a delicate process because while some value consistancy in the Freelancer style, I value consistancy of the subject matter in question. In this case I have to adhere to what Jinx has already provided, which in my opinion is some of the best concept design work in the mod.

That looks amazing, surely though It can be better than a light fighter, what about the Zoners own Heavy fighter and stop selling the eagle at Zoner bases?

I think a light fighter is a good place to start. Light Fighters are generally overlooked and need more love.

Thank you for the feedback.
