I am not going to bother talking about rules and regulations as I am quite sure you have crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's.
I want to talk about feelings. My feelings. Your feelings. So you are terrorists. You have deemed your place is to think 'how do I hurt people.' And
you think about that. You actually sit around thinking - how can I make peoples life miserable. You can never be completely separate from your
character. Not really. After reading through many pages of this thread I sense a common theme in your responses. I have to kill quick because I am hunted, I
am here to spread terror and fear, I must do this or it will be bad for me. I, I, I, I. Not one single word about the feelings of other players.
Nothing about how this might make them feel.
I have only been here a few days. While I have played quite a bit single-player and in USA which usually has ~20 players, I have almost no PvP combat
experience. While I know the basics of the factions (and the details of the 'vanilla' factions), I have not had time to read the hundreds and hundreds of pages of detailed faction politics.
I was in Dublin rather enjoying myself. I was talking with another miner, working out the appropriate rates
for freelance LDE (load/defend/escort). A pirate was working the system. I threw in the occasional comment
about that on syschat, for which I fully expected to pay a hefty financial (or even mortal) penalty. I would
play it as it flowed later. Suddenly a red ship comes zooming past. The pirate is here. The ship zooms away.
No. A PHANTOM! The legendary elite terrorist faction that only accepts the very best RP skills. After a fatal
but thrilling -Wilde- encounter earlier I expected to be treated to the finest display of roleplay craftsmanship
that Discovery has to offer. A probably fatal display, but educational, creative, inspirational and imaginative.
The Phantom zooms over to my friend and starts shooting. Huh ?!? Thats not right is it ? Some lame line
about 'tell me why I should let you live'. Now I don't know about you but once the shooting starts any
thoughts of RP are gone from my mind. Maybe you can fly, fight, type, read, feed your cat and wash your
feet all at the same time. But not me. I think - I should help him. Hegemon is pretty stout. 2 together might
give him a run for his money. I hit cruise and start heading that way. Oh crud. I loaded up with type 4
turrets for NPC fighters. Completely useless against a gunboat. I think 'I am so sorry friend' as I pull up and
start running. Now what. Here comes the pirate. His angle is not good enough. As soon as I hit 350 I hit the
engine kill. Oh fidge fadge fudge. That only works against the NPC's. knew it the instant I did it. And he was
just out of range, maybe 1800 meters. Now I am scared. My speed slowly draining away. If I hit cruise he
catches me.
Then something snapped. You wanna dance? LETS DANCE! Crush Kill Destroy Explode Ram Fist through the
screen anything to KILL KILL KILL. Odds dont matter. Skill doesn't matter get him Get Him KILL HIM.
Here comes 2 phantom ships. I laugh with perverse glee. Now we die together my enemy. At least you die.
Both phantom attack me. Now 3 ships at once. WHAT! The PirateID gunboat is the much greater threat! That
isn't fair. KILL US BOTH! Who is he your real life friend? Aren't you the best of the best? The very pillar of
Discovery? I know you are terrorist and all that, but underneath it isn't there some bond of player respect
and gameplay fairness that makes the world worth living in?
My bats/bots gone. The last of my hull draining. The last of my LIFE draining. I am overwhelmed with the
loss of any sense of idealism and grandeur I had such hopes for here. Some shred of sanity remained to hit
F1 quickly and turn off the computer. I will hurt you. I will make you feel bad. You WILL suffer pain and
anguish. I know I can't do it in a ship, I haven't the skill. But I will find a way. A cold fury smoldered.
These are the true feelings you create. You think you make terror and fear. But that is only in the moment.
They are soon replaced with something much darker, much stronger. Much more permanent.
The very mother root of war.
1. Phantoms are neutral to pirates. Pirates cause havoc. They don't mind havoc.
Moving from that, I'll comment as a non phantom ID ed player.
Sometimes, when people expect the pinnacle of roleplay, the man who's actually a great roleplayer can simply fail because of many reasons.
Most of people I pirate in Dublin don't even have a forum account. Some start speaking ooc, and then are calling me for lack of rp when I don't rp with OOCpeople. So perhaps he was just eager to blow up some economy. I hope you don't get pushed from a rp server because one people had a lack of rp moment (if he did)
Keep in mind that there's a good sum of players that know the names of Terrorist ID's, Phantom IDs' or generally names that they interacted with, and ended up losing.
They tend to remember the names and hunt those people from other characters. Because it's fun.
Now immagine how much hate does Phantom receive sometimes.
I'm defending both points, I think they are equally important, but the biggest thing I'm adressing here is You.
Don't get dissapointed on small numbers. Sometimes I send 3 sanction reports a day, get blown up with lack of rp and simple "engaging" messages, and there's 15 people spamming OOC messages that I entered system, when noone is around me at all. I get my rp will drained.
Sometimes tho, I get a full day of enjoyment rp. So give it few more encounters with "pinnacle rp", I'm pretty sure you'll find that the one that's extra worth it - will erase all the bad ones.
So true, Bliss.. Happened exactly to me few days back, probably at the same time.
I was on miner in Dublin, alone. Pirate ID vessel comes, usual donation is being asked but I have no money, actually nothing in my cargo, just arrived to Dublin. Ofcourse, I knew I was gonna die, nothing wrong about that, didnt even tried to run or fight back, no point.
But no, here comes Phantom in all his shiny PVP and Rp skills.. Nice, now Im waiting to hear his excellent RP before he kills me or maybe kills this Pirate and then me.
Well, guess what, he joins this Pirate vessel in killing defenceless miner. No RP, nothing. Both of them and shooting, eating my hull, while I try to type few questions to get some RP going. No dice.
His words were 'Oh so greedy' and then I die.
Pirate and Phantom competing who will get that shiny blue msg that we all so like to see when we have uber-awesome ship on our side and helpless player on other. One doesnt need any reason to kill me, other one wont even listen or respond to any RP answer I'm trying to type, just 'I need cash' and 'Now you die'.
I mean, whats the point in being Phantom. Some kind of license to kill? Get nice screenshots how you snac-ed 20 miners in Dublin and writing how you just ''looooove the holy snac''? Thats crap, come on. Writing reports like 'I killed everyone.' *click guncam link here* ?
Everybody can shoot around, be killing machines, just get them that ID and nice ship. I didnt mind that I died, I didnt have any cargo, nothing to lose, but I wanted to see some response, some RP behind all this, insane or creepy, doesnt matter, something original.
This is kind of non-responsive killing is redundant on RP server.
I count my SNAC Kills on my Rogue, yet no one starts whining and crying at me. Stop the silly whining and live on. Read the Post written by Ivan and go play something else if you cant stand what happens.
Oh and no, I don't have a Phantom and what do you expect from a Phantom? Hugging and kissing you?
"Who is it doing this synthetic type of alpha beta psychedelic funkin'?"
Once upon a time I got killed by a phantom and I was pissed. I had never seen or heard of phantoms before. I was traveling through sig-13 in a transport, back when the JH was in a place that accelerated your route and a phantom got me. I thought to myself "WTF, how cheap, he hardly said anything," blah, blah, blah.
Then I read the wiki about phantoms and a bunch of other material and was like "oh, well, that seems within RP and within the rules" and I realized, I hadnt really lost much, perhaps a small chunk of pride, a little time, but that was it. From then on, I went about my merry way, and whenever I saw a phantom, I turned the other way and ran, ran as fast as I could, as they are scary (;)) and I lived happily ever after.
Before you think I am a complete loon I should point out that though my RP is intense and personal, it is just roleplay.
Despite the entertaining story, the real point is this. Terrorism doesn't work. Never has, never will. Terrorists may generate fear in individuals, but they create much more anger and hatred toward themselves and their cause. They always become the weak, the hunted in the end.
' Wrote:For the record, we killed the Pirate ID Gunboat after.
Not only did we kill him, we played mind games with him and completely screwed him over.
I was the second Phantom to arrive there, I don't know what RP happened because when I got there the fight was already going and you were already nearly dead. But there was plenty of RP afterward with us messing with the Pirate.

Who said what the Phantoms are doing is working? They are definitely doing it, but do you see any evidence in game of it accomplishing much of anything? Have the Phantoms actually conquered or defeated any houses?
Yes they are terrorists, but ultimately it's all in the RP to determine if it's working or not.

But are they getting weaker? The Phantoms, I now know, have been around for quite some time. Every knows who they are. They never have any legitimate business. Just terror terror kill kill. Shouldn't they be Kill-on-sight by now? Bad for you I know but realistic.
And yes the encounter did make me mad. To the point where I am probably banned from the server anyway after behaving childishly then trying to be clever when I shouldn't (I really like being clever). Could you not tone it down a bit for the newer players? I realize I am a pretty high level. But that is only because I honestly like mining, I like chatting. And you can make ridiculous amounts of money mining.
While you can terrorize my character all you want, you can really only terrorize me, the player, once. If it happens again you will find me to be more more playful. Run if I see you in time, RP my current mood if I don't.
