This is a good idea.
Maybe even... *Cough* a, GREAT idea.
Who knows;)
Do you think it'd be possible to actually have the "powercore" limit your equipment? Like, and outcast powercore, making it physically impossible to mount Liberty weapons. (IF it's too much work it's pointless, i just think it'd make no room for error for those people who have no clue what Role-play is) Or you could just stick with using common sense of course.
Question, this will still be in your hold, and non-targetable i'm assuming? Just wondering because i think it'd be sorta cool to lock onto an enemys powercore and blast it off lol.

It's possible.

Hadn't really thought about this. Considering the system requires you have an ID at all times I dont think this would work to well. I'm mostly just trying to remedy the RP mess surrounding ID's and not thinking about adding function.

Only problem I see with it is that someone who shouts:"you have smuggler ID! You is a smuggler! Death to smuglers!" or something in that fashion won`t change. Instead of ID they will say: "your core is shielded! You must be smuggler!".
Who want`s to roleplay will ropleplay. Who wants to PVP will PVP, no matter what we do.
I want to roleplay. So I like the idea. Actually that's one of my favorites what I read since I'm here. Maybe because I always looked on IDs as ship-parts with distinguishable origins, just like I looked IFF as a recognizable transponder-code. But it goes well with the principal of 'what can be interpreted inrp, should be'. Soon only the transport-shooting capitals will remain.

Yeah, I think this is possible, but it does give more room to argue, so maybe some will change. Also I think some other ID's might have shielded power cores, like Kishiro, for all the potentially sensitive electronics they haul, etc. And that was just an example.
Still, I think it can only make things better and if things simply stay the same, at least we can say we are trying.
I don't like this idea.
Adds some work to people in developing team, wasting their time.
In my opinion, you're taking about simple replace of word "ID" by "powercore". Lolwutts won't care. As for others... I find that a bit stupid. Who the hell will scan your powercore? They all have to be different as well.
For pvpwhores, powercore will remain the same with ID.
And those "powercores" will add a lot of metagaming [...].
Also, think about.. How should Wilde powercore to differ from human and nomad "powercores"?

Who will scan it, hmm, well it has been in many works science fiction going back decades. Other than a visual identification the energy emissions of a ship are probably the best way to tell anything about it. Most energy will be coming from the generator/reactor/core, whatever you want to call it.

Yeah, this idea really isnt meant to address people who skate by on the bare minimum of RP, it's much more for those that do RP and perhaps for better dealing with those that don't (//you cant see my ID, you dont know who I am LOL).
As for the metagaming, how do you mean. That word is thrown around so much it hardly has any meaning any more, or at least none that people can agree on. If you think it will provide to much information or too definite information I think that could be fixed with the in RP writing on the powercore.
' Wrote:Also, think about.. How should Wilde powercore to differ from human and nomad "powercores"?
Well, if you want to start going through each one, one by one, I suppose we can do that. I however think the dev team is creative enough. But in this particular case I would say perhaps it has been modified with nomad technology making it a hybrid. Some of the tech on wilde ships is human and some is nomad so it would make sense if the power system is a combination of the two producing various emissions from both. The card could be written accordingly.
PS. I do appreciate the feedback so thank you, just not sure I understand some of it, especially the metagaming bit.
