Recently I have seen posts on the forum stating that 'If Freelancer Mod X has it, Discovery isn't allowed to' and similar words to that effect.
I can completely understand things like certain specific changes that might harm the RP or don't actually make a difference to the mod, but what about 'behind the scenes' changes that make it better?
As an example, the Disco Mod has, as I understand it, a 'tweaked' FL.EXE file that is different from the original.
Someone posted that a certain Mod has found a way to make Freelancer compatible with DX9 and found a way past the 130000 polygon mark, meaning that we could have better graphics if it was implemented.
I can't see WHY *all* the stuff that other Mods have should be on the 'not going to happen here' list.
Is the initial statement true or has someone been misquoted?

O.O Discovery................ Better graphics................ HOLY HOLES BATMAN!! i wana see this. PLEEEAAASSSSEEE ADMINES!!! I promise to be nice forever and ever
I think you should think about good RP'ers, which have old junkies, called PC... For someone, it would be impossible to play again.
There are countries, where new PC's is costs big moneys...and crisis,ya know.
But how about making two versions of Disco. The one, with new and better graphics, and other with good old one.
Or maybe: Making a patch or "modification for mod", which will change graphics to better ones, but it will be unnecessary.

I've decided that an answer to your post from me would be a good thing.
The better graphics that I mentioned was part of the example.
I was more interested in an answer to the question in the first line of my original post.
Sorry if I didn't make that as clear as I should have.
It would be nice if it could happen, but I'm fairly sure that the Devs and Admins here at Disco will NOT implement it until they can figure out a way that BOTH the normal version and the DX9 friendly version can run on the same server.
Since reading about that, I have also realized that both FreeWorlds and Discovery are different games, despite using the same game engine and that while the new 'technology' (for want of a better word) is out there, there may be some difficulties applying it to Discovery.
There's a simple reason why people keep using this (and "hardcoded, not doable") as an excuse - they don't *want* to include certain things, but don't want to back up their position with valid reasons or an admittance of laziness. Back in the days, even systems were claimed to be hardcoded.
