So I wanna get the Praefect because it looks awesome (and the stats look pretty fine too). However I don't know how to RP a Corsair. All I know is that they hate outcasts, are pirates (can't pirate in a cruiser though), are very protective of their tech and have operations in the Omegas.
when you buy a cruiser - be prepared for a long learning curve. like all capital ships - mastering them takes a lot longer than mastering a small ship. - but it can be rewarding.
that aside - you have a good basis for RPing it. - dislike for outcasts, protecting their own, a rather honourbound competitive way and a thing for making enemies defines them sort of. - the enemies are plenty. hessians, outcasts, BHG. - the friends are far away ( FA, gaians ) and are rather powerless compared to the corsairs, too.
if you have patience - interact with people and keep an open mind, you ll figure out your way easily, no matter what you fly.
after all .... everyone started like that, and no roleplay is better than another roleplay - its just different.

Don't get a ship (god forbid a capital ship) just because it looks awesome.
How about trying to be a Corsair in a VHF for a while, getting the hang of it before you bypass the ranks and get yourself a cruiser?
Not sure the RP required of a VHF is very much related to that of the Cruiser. I'd suggest a transport or a gunboat first, if you're looking at scaling up, but again..err.
I think the most important thing to keep in mind while flying a large ship is that there isn't just one person on that boat.

Whatever you do, do NOT attack BHG| or BHG|Core ships in the Omicrons or Omegas (with the exception of Gamma, Omega 3, Omega 7 and Omega 15), unless you have a VERY good reason to.
Secondly, read through the Corsair Laws (found in the 'Laws of Sirius' topic).
As for the actual RP, you can have basically anything from generic 'YARR!' pirates to honourable neo-hispanic warriors. For the general 'feel', you could have a look at the TBH/Benitez/Sails faction status posts, as they should give you a good outline of Corsair RP in general. As for specifics, its all up to you.
Also, if you do decide to fly a large ship, you may want to bear in mind that there really isnt much in the way of action (Alpha 'raids' are a big no-no, especially in caps). You'll get many more diverse RP oppertunities in a Fighter/Bomber/GB, as you have quite a large ZoI, however, Corsair caps are rather restricted on where they can go (no rule wise, just through RP laws).
If i were to suggest anything, it would be start in a smaller ship until you are comfortable with the RP, as if you buy a Cruiser and feel it doesnt fit your RP, or you dont like Corsair RP, it is a lot of money down the drain.
The reason I like the cruiser is because other ships apart from gunboats are useless to me. My ping of 350-450 makes it impossible to hit people darting about in fighters and if I do hit them it's with pathetic fighter guns which they can shrug off.
Cruisers also make it easier to RP. I find this because an enemy is less likely to RP if they can beat you in pvp. I had a good RP when I used to fly a Hathor, because all the authorities were flying fighters and scared that I would pummel them if they pissed me off.
Well as long as you fallow the Corsair laws, i'm happy to see that Corsairs capital fleet will have a person who can lift things up by actually roleplaying a capital vessel, what you can't see at gamma very often actually.
Also Omicron eta often has few capitals. And corsair fleet makes sense of being there. But I'm afraid a lot of oc battleships are not very into roleplay. But maybe i'm wrong, would be nice if someone would prove me otherwise.
Now in short:
Corsairs are imperialist supremacist aggresive sub-house. They have huge ambitions, and trying to achieve them. While trying this they always needs a lot of resources, which pushes them into dependencies on trade agreements and such, which some of them they don't like at all.
But in this context the rp of a corsair is quite wide. Corsairs aren't just a faction. They are quite a house represented just by one npc faction, which means you have a lot of roleplay freedom to create your character. Corsair npc faction has the biggest official faction count, just for the same reason. Each faction takes it's nishe in diffrent part of corsair roleplay. I'm sure there is place even for one more (smuggling/trading one or something like that)
As some others have said stick to the Titan. You'll have more fun with it. But its an ok ship I guess. I'm not that big on cruiser though.
