if you can only afford low CAU, i d rather suggest to use the universal armour upgrades ( fighter type ) and use a 2.5 modifier ( type 8 )
it takes up a lot less cargo - and you won t see a difference to a low CAU.
and wether you survive an encounter depends too much on who is attacking you with what kind of ship ( and how many ) - and you cannot prepare for every eventuality anyway... so better specialize on few.
Meh, sucks people require these infernal things to need to survive in a transport these days. But on the other hand, PTrans with an armor upgrade is no license to shoot every other trader, remember that.
The answer to your question is yes, you will survive more with a better upgrade, but only by a small fraction, so what you buy isn't necessarily what you expect. For most half decent bomber pilots around today, it doesn't matter what your packing, your gonna die in a minute or five. Most people tend to go for the overkill, so dont think an armor upgrade will be the differrence between surviving a fight in open space and not.
Have a think before you invest your money into one.
As a pirate and a proud user of a CAU8 ptrans, I disagree. 4x hull means a lot longer running distance. I made 12K today while a gunboat and a cruiser was shooting me (the latter did it with my ooc permission of course). Just have a capital-ship thruster, since anything else means a weak-spot.
Cap VI, VII, & VIII are the only ones worth buying if you can afford them.
I agree I use CaP VI on almost all of my transports.
Ash about the Pirate Transport and the difference between AU8 and CAU6 you are very wrong- it gives you a advantage to kill any other transport and enough time to run and dock from bombers. The difference is huge. Test it if you don't believe me.
If you want to pirate in junker group with this junker P-trans PM Primitive.
Why many people use Capital ship thruster on their Transports? Because it has more hit points or?
