Am I the only one who read this as it disabled only the weapons on the ship using the grappler? Meaning the ship being grappled can easily rip it into tiny bite-sized pieces.
It's certainly an interesting concept. However, there are many balance issues that need to be worked out first (and I mean, thought deeply about, not just ideastormed):
- What happens weapons/shield/energy-wise if a ship is grappled?
- What will happen to a ship that's using a grapple?
- How many times can a ship grapple? How much energy does it use?
- How can a grapple be balanced to not be used to overpower capital ships?
- How much can a grapple-armed ship do damage-wise? Is it just a grappling platform or can it adequately fight as well?
The list goes on and on. Don't get me wrong, though, I love the idea. It's just one of those many wonderful ideas that needs some thought towards the effects it'll have and the measures that will need to be taken in order to balance its pros and cons of usage.

However, maybe not stopping the ship but at least disrupting it's usage of thruster/cruise...although, that wouldn't matter much for a decent bomber I guess...

This would be used for catching and holding ships to keep them from quickdocking. Basically like a tractor beam, and probably employing the tractor beam effects. It would have a max range of 100m, and use up all of a ship's energy to fire it, as well as triggering cruise-drain affects. Both the targeted ship and the player ship would be immobile, and the weapons on the player ship would be useless while the grappler was engaged.
Releasing the grappler would require the player to click the fire key for the CD/T slot again.

so what you actually want is the removal of quickdocking.
the gun you have devised you be used to rape targets very quickly, and although it is possible, i sincerely doubt it will ever see the light of day on this mod.
so, what do people think about the removal of quickdock? cos essentially thats the intention of this thread
