The title says it all. Whenever I turn on my computer the screen goes black when the XP logo thing should show up. Everything before it seems to work fine. No idea what's wrong with it. I already took the whole thing apart, cleaned it up and put it back together again so I'm fairly sure it isn't a hardware problem. Wel, not a wiring one at least.
Do you have access to the bios ?...do you have a boot disc ?...what about the set-up menu ? Can you get into the set-up menu and have it boot up in safe mode ?

Yes
Aaand no. At least I dont see the option to do so.

That'd be a problem. I moved a lot of my stuff to an external HDD when I went on vacation but all my written RP stuff is still in there.
When booting up (before the non booting windows screen)
F8 it will open a menu - choose safe mode, if it works then you can do system restore or alike , if it doesn't..I'm not sure will you be able to save anything
Of course you don't need to format while installing just rewriting windows folder
