On the other hand, you get lawfuls that go up to you and go PIRATE DAIDAIDAIDAIDAI!!!!
In which case I do, do as the OP is complaining about. Not say ZOMFG I DUN NOFINK RONG SANCHUN SANCHUN SANCHUN, but I test them to see what charges they can bring up about me, wander off about how bad the lawful forces are, how they're being a bit too happy with their guns...
Of course, that's only when the other side is being a dickhead.

i've been all blowed up for merely having a pirate transport in liberty... its a scary ship to meet on your lonesome.
but, yeah, " you're under arrest for the crime of piracy dated 17.7.801", (or whatever the date is) " you can come with me quietly, or you can resist arrest. what's it gonna be?"
give them the choice of actually RP'ing an arrest... not that we CAN arrest anyone...

I fail to see it as a problem lawfulls shooting unlawfulls, the ID's guide RP and as such, generic pirates are known criminals, identified as such by the ID...
Ok the ID is OORP, but it guides the RP, so a pirate ID means they're known pirates, a merc ID means they're known as a gun for hire... etc...

Nothing to do with bounties...?
Didn't realize this was only about LN, LSF, et al. Considering its the LN that actually posts and maintains the bounty board, why would they specifically distinguish a pirate who's been caught in the act from anyone else if their intent was to ONLY go after those who actually are caught pirating? Rogues are a "known" criminal element who are at odds with Liberty. Pirates may and may not pirate in a particular area.
I USED to have a pirate named Black.Pearl that did NOT pirate within house systems for role play reasons. I would however go up and ask for the release of Rogue, Junker and other pilots that someone had in their holds. But for the most part I RP'd a pirate who only took on piracy in the buffer systems between the houses and the outer rim. For that the LN pretty much left me alone. Only issue I had were with the indies that just wanna blow stuff up without regard to role play ... the red is dead crowd.
Someone also mentioned unlawfuls flying transports (and freighters). Kind of a different animal if you ask me. If a Rogue is flying a Bactrian and carrying legitimate cargo ... WHY would you "kill it"? Why not treat that as just another trader moving freight around? I've often RP'd moving food, medicine, water and other such supplies as a humanitarian run.
Just because someone's red to you doesn't mean you HAVE to take them out. Red is dead might be role play to some ... but its lazy role play that requires very little brain activity.

Think outside the box ... be a bit more creative ... be different. These are some reasons NOT to just go blow something up. But if that's all you wanna do there's nothing really stopping you. You'd be justified to blow it up ... but you'd be annoying as heck to those of us that enjoy a bit more complexity in role play.
I'm a firm believer in judging others by their actions rather than their appearance. All the ID and IFF does is open up prejudice into the role play. You attack them because of what they look like rather than what they do. Although I gotta say society is fairly prejudice as a whole.
But if you're gonna just go blowin stuff up because you see red ... do us all a favor and do it in a gunboat or smaller. Gets really old seeing a dozen dreadnoughts and LABC's running around with guns blazing.
But the point by the poster was that pirates hide behind the "I'm not doing anything now so you can't do anything with me. I'm Mr. Lawful Citizen". And that is something I do not subscribe to. Especially if you drop in on them near a dropped lane node, or see them near a lane node in bombers or PTransies. At the very least it'd be a "move along, citizen, you've got other places to be" shooing, with perhaps a gentle reminder that the next time they are seen acting suspiciously, they can come to the nearest police base for questioning. Avoids pewing but still breaks up the piracy.

I always go by individual RP incidents, if they RP well, I'd let them carry on in this sorta circumstance, but if they act like a tw**, I'd beat the living sh** outa them...
It's all about circumstance...

And we pirates get the trader who hides behind the "I'm poor and don't have that kind of money on me." I usually ask for 500k ... how can a huge transport NOT have 500k?
Again it goes back to basing your attack on what the pirate does or what he or she looks like. If they are a "notorious" pirate then they'll be listed "by name" in the Liberty Bounty Board. If they're not well known, why not see what they do?
Always keep in mind Rule # 5.2 ... "All attacks must be the result of some form of role play." The pirate just "being there" is not IMHO a legitimate role play reason to attack them. Rogue ID is a different story. Best RP I get from lawfuls in Liberty is when they see my Pirate ID they tell me to get out of town or they tell me they're gonna keep an eye on me.
Also keep in mind Rule # 6.7 (and all its exceptions) ... "Attacking freighters, transports, liners or demanding cargo from the same is not allowed for cruisers and battleships." This includes the LNS tagged vessels. You cannot attack a Transport or Freighter with a Pirate ID while you fly around in a cruiser or battleship. Sorry but ONLY the [LN] tagged vessels have this authority.
Remember ... just because you can doesn't mean you should. We're all here to "enjoy" the experience. The joy is not owned only by the lawfuls of Disco. ALWAYS ALWAYS keep Rule # 0.0 in mind when you encounter one another.

You're a rare commodity in Disco. I have the same issue with traders. If they RP well I don't demand much and usually give em a thank you afterward. But those that don't RP at all get the same response ... I blow em the heck out of the sky.
And yes ... its all about the caliber of person you encounter.

By your standards, I always 'hide' behind this to start with, I RP that as a corporate pilot, I dont have that sort of money due to being on a rubbish wahe... BUT I always managed to arrange a few things with my employer (Bowex) to send the cash if it'a needed after some decent RP...

Do police officers go around shooting people for mugging someone? Yes, I know disco =/= real life, but it's common sense
