Note: this is all my opinion as a player and normal (not high-ranked) Phantom, so it may not be 100% correct. Don't kill me if I'm wrong anywhere in this post.
Note: this guy is completely correct in his interpretation of the applications. We might not want to accept someone now, but after looking at their attitude ingame and on the forums, we might want to take him later. There is no necessary rejection, only a waiting period. If anyone has any questions or wants to know opinion on their recruitment post, he can always pm me or someone and we can talk. Skype also works.

So you basically twist everything in the video around in order to defend your precious clan, and make me look like a moron.
What I would like to see is the phantom that actually did this come out of the shadows (no pun intended) and give his first hand account of the situation.
You were obviously too blind to notice that the video only covered the second half of the attack, as the video started once my shields were drained.
The SS covers every line of conversation, tell me that "do something to abate my rage" doesn't translate into "guess what you have to do. wrong! boom boom splat"
Hi. I am the Phantom who killed you. I was the only one who went outside yesterday and the only one who flies a Wasupu. We have one Wasupu, and it's mine. As Zelot said, it's a Civilian fighter, and I really have no problems letting anyone who has been in the Phantoms for a while get a Civilian fighter as long as we have more Shadows than Civilian fighters. As of right now, yeah, we do have more Shadows than Civilian fighters. What can I say? I like the Wasupu.
You'll notice my wording when I invited you to post here. One of us can get help. From what I read, I'm pretty sure I RPed what I needed to RP. Now, here's the scoop about a Phantom interaction, you're a Samura, we're terrorists, our job is to kill corporations, we meet, unless you give us some incentive not to kill you, you're going to pop. That's just how it is. It's the same thing as a pirate. Now, I asked you if you were going to try and abate my rage. You made no effort to abate my rage, you just kept asking "What do you want?". Well, in RP, I want to kill you, and that should've been obvious enough in RP. I felt like there was very little effort to do something which would actually coerce me to stop shooting, so I kept shooting. There's also this whole thing about betrayal and stuff in my backstory, which is a work in progress here which really puts my character in a very bad sour spot in relation to the conservative side of Kusari.
So, yeah, basically, that's RP. Guess what you have to do to get out, and you guessed incorrectly. It's the same thing with a pirate. It's the same thing with an LN. You tried to bribe me. You tried to run away. It doesn't work like that with a Phantom. You're not showing any kind of change from your status quo in trying to bribe me. You didn't show any signs of doing anything which would give me incentive not to shoot. I kept shooting because that's my role, and honestly I fulfilled it. If you didn't want to die, you had to pull out something to make me stop shooting and that is not "What do you want?".
Thank you. I hope that helped you understand our perspective.

Baconsoda I appreciate it. Thank you for enlightening me and I apologize for anything I might have said that offended you but I would like to make it clear that I was not targeting you or trying to have a trial by forum or any of that nonsense.
I realize you did not break any rules, my main question is why does this super group even exist and why are they granted the ability to do basically whatever they want.
This is not a matter of player relations, it is a matter of asking why is there this deviation from normal gameplay on the server.
With that I officially resign myself from posting in this thread; the reason being the fear of anything more I say also being misinterpreted and me paying the price for it.
Well, it's completely understandable. No hard feelings.
Why do we exist? To make people happy. To spice up the server. To spread anarchy in a religious fervor. To RP. What else really matters besides RPing? But, the Phantoms really have a long history. It starts here and then goes on some more through these post histories and eventually gets to where it is today. Just a note about us, though, none of the things we have were ever asked for (with the exception of the Temple of the Eidelon). It's just kind of been...Given to us. Everything from the Penubra to the sick joke that is Omicron-82 (Nomad Assasins, why do you have a higher spawn rate than Phantom ships?). So, yeah, that's kind of it. Honestly, I don't know where we came from aside from Kane's old posts, but what can we really do? RP. And that's the ramble.

[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
To start with: Yes, I know that we both know that any encounter between the Phantoms and the BAF is going to end in a lot of shooting. The whole "transport full of mox" thing hasn't escaped memory, etc... I know that it's prudent to kill anyone when you have the opportunity, if you know they're going to attack you eventually. I know that you're entirely certain that anyone you don't kill is going to gank you.
That said, hearing only "well look at that" + "knife meet gun fight" + face full of primaries is not exactly fun to get on the receiving end. Only reason I got close is because I thought the Tenebrous was going to lane off, it'd be suicide to start a cruiser vs battleship engagement at that range. I had planned to talk, trade ultimatums, etc, but... alas.
I didn't witness them, but a few others amongst the BAF and assorted defense group also mentioned something about "well I suppose the Phantom ID technically qualifies for one liner + missiles..." and the like.
Looking at it technically, yes, what you did was strategically wise. But it wasn't enjoyable for the people on the other side... and such action has a tendency to make it really hard to rationalize telling the 18956 inevitable reinforcements to hold their fire in future encounters.
Well, to start, don't tell them to hold their fire. I never expect anyone to hold his fire. Seriously, that's a stupid RP thing to do. "Oh, there's a terrorist/Corsair/whatever right there. Hold your fire! We're going to give him a good fight." I expect the 18 and a half thousand people to come in and try and wreck us. We pretty much ask for it, so go for it. We asked for it tonight, and I got wrecked. *Shrugs*
In my opinion, a faction which has PvP rules is not focused on RP anyway. Things should be focused on a case-by-case basis, and though I won't send 5 fighters in vs 1 bomber, I don't think anyone else should really hold themselves to that standard against us. Ganking comes with the territory. It's a challenge and is fun.
Moral of the story: if you don't want to get that close, don't. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to let you take advantage of your strategy for killing BSes just like you're not going to let me take advantage of my strategy to kill Destroyers.
On the part about the missiles, I was talking to Hidamari, and she kept CDing me. She told me the BAF wanted to meet me. Well, we met. That was it. In that encounter, I notice 3 Mollys, a BPA, and a BAF, 3 of those people being Bombers, not a good prospect. So, that's how that came about.
Overall, I don't think either parties is too happy about tonight. That's probably my fault. I feel like I should apologize for not RPing as well as I should have. I didn't sneak around like I normally do and I really didn't talk all that much (Though that's kind of normal). I suppose I should raise the bar higher for a bigger ship like I now have. It's completely my fault for these kinds of sour grapes, and I believe I'll take responsibility:
Sorry for tonight. I didn't hold myself up to the standard I should have as the leader of this faction. It's completely my fault that there are sour grapes and I really should've done a better job at portraying a more welcoming and fun environment. I apologize for not RPing like I should have. I apologize for not leading the group like I should have.
As leader of this faction, I will assure you it will not happen again,

Howsabout you stop by again tomorrow and we have a jolly good time? I do so love talking to phooms, y'all are delightfully insane. This time I'll stay out of weapons range while doing so though, heh. Sound like a plan?
Maybe. It depends on how classes work out for mostly everyone. We'll see how everything goes and come out again once this week.

I've run into the Phantoms... maybe five times in the past two years. Y'all aren't around much, you know. So when I saw you running around in New Berlin earlier, I decide to specifically and intentionally seek you out in the hopes of actually getting someone to RP with me, since I've had an unusual amount of difficulty with that today. Sure, I expect to get killed, 'cause that's what you're known for: you're murderous terrorists.
End up catching up with you around Hamburg, and my character proceeds to make annoying comments. I get... maybe three lines in response before you start shooting up random Military indies, and eleven during the fight. I float around chattering and being ignored, which might be unsurprising if there weren't six of you - mostly fighters, including a LF, but with a few bombers too - shooting at a lone cruiser.
Eventually I end up thrusting off and EKing to get out of the line of fire, and look away for a moment typing into Skype. At that point, I'm floating away from the battle, well out of combat range. I glance away for a moment to type something into Skype on a different computer, and look back to see myself blow up.
I'm bothered by two things. Firstly, the quantity and quality of the RP. Only people who made anything other than generic evil comments were Grief and Doctor Adolf Ludwig, the latter of which did actually issued a couple lone lines of decent RP that actually set his character apart from your random standard-issue insane terrorist. Grief managed some okay RP, but nothing specifically notable. The other four - Mobeus Paradox, Pitchfork, Harlequin, and one other who didn't say a thing at all and thus who's name eludes me - said either nothing or just low-quality one-liners with no personality or anything in them in any way.
Second, I was typekilled while I was obviously not paying attention. That is to say, I was EKing off away from the battle, and theoretically continued to do so when I was shot at (unless of course my computer decided to dodge for me. >.>). I don't know about what happened when I was being shot at, and I know y'all have more and more powerful guns than the rest of it, but if you hit every time, it'd still take one of your Shadows at least a good three seconds to kill my Falcon - easily plenty of time to realize I wasn't reacting and stop firing. Nothing says you have to stop, of course, but it's just common decency as players not to kill someone who's clearly not paying attention and wasn't previously involved in the fight in any way.
I don't normally post these things, mind you, but this isn't the first time. Last time I ran into y'all, there were five of you against my little dinky CSV, and I got maaaybe two lines of RP before I was pewpew'd at while docking at a gate. I seem to remember the lines were utterly uninventive; something like "Oh hello Little Sparrow" and "Time to die." Note also that my ship's name was "Little.Sparrow", or something along those lines, so... yeah, talk about inventiveness.
In fact, come to think of it, I've had a Phantom talk to me for more than a minute without trying to kill something... once. That'd be Akura. Oh, wait! He's not a Phantom any more.
I understand y'all play rampaging, murdering terrorists. That's fine. The problem is that you, as players, seem way too obsessed with the blue message. Yeah, you can shoot at me, yeah, but at least be reasonable about it from an ooRP perspective... and talk some, too. Sure, you can be terse, but you can be terse and still show off your character. Right now, eighty percent or so of all the Phantoms I've met have had the exact same boring non-personality. You don't even do it well, like you're playing someone who doesn't have a personality; as a roleplayer, it's something that I can only be identified as lazy roleplaying.
Unlike some people I won't name in such an open forum, I don't hold any specific grudge against you bunch. I'd love for you to improve. Don't be so sloppy, talk more, and don't destroy momentarily unresponsive ships as a matter of course. Y'all're better RPers than this - I've run into some of the same people on other characters - and the faction has great RPing potential. Just utilize those things, will you?
Actually it was me, a Bomber, who killed you, in about half a second with a Supernova.
You know this isn't something we usually do, but when someone decides to "Observe" our fight or give commentary, it happens. Mostly because we don't want to be "Observed" or insulted. Furthermore, since we're fighting, we want to make this removal of someone who could take pictures of us or data or the removal of someone who have been telling us that our ships are ugly and we're stupid as quick as possible, and so we just instantly kill them with a Supernova. That's what you get for being so close that you can't anticipate it.
But what can we learn after all this?
A: If you don't want to die, don't insult 6 murderous terrorists
B: If you don't want to die, don't alt+tab after insulting 6 murderous terrorists
C: If you don't wait to die, don't Ekill while alt+tabbed after insulting 6 murderous terrorists
Honestly. It's happened to me a couple of times, and it's not really something you come out of going "Well that was completely unexpected, I didn't ask for it at all!" In fact, you said before, you expected to get killed. Well, we delivered. Can you really complain? I wouldn't.
And on that note, we're terrorists. We don't all need to make exceedingly deep comments. You gave us no incentive to. I do not have a Corsair ship, I have a Phantom ship. Grief and Adolf had the rest of it handled. Why do I need to say anything else? As you said, we gave you fourteen (14) lines of RP. I didn't need to say a thing.
And Akura isn't a Phantom anymore mostly because he decided that he ran the faction and was going to jeopardize our relations with a faction just because he wanted a Katana with Lamias really badly. You can tell because he left the Phantoms when he was told he couldn't have one. If that's the standard by which RP is measured, I'm glad we're abnormal.

Maybe. But from a player perspective sometimes helping everyone have a bit more fun means being a bit stupid inRP. A bit more player to player consideration would do Discovery a fair chunk of good I reckon. *shrugs*
sorry for the off-topic, just something that's been ratling around my brain the past 3 years.
