There is a special pleasure in roleplaying a common character in Freelancer Universe, or nearly common - a Dromadeary pilot with his short-range tading and other stuff.

This is actually what I do. My Dromedary is from Freeport 10, and I'm trying to find short range supply routes that I can do. It's just a shame that the vanilla short-range routes that are mentioned in all the area's rumours have been deleted... For example, there used to be a trade dynamic between Freeports 10 and 6. Niobium and food would go to them, fertilisers or terraforming gases back. Oh well.

I'm not quite sure what this thread is asking, but if it means regional base commanders, I'd love to do something with Freeport 10. Personally, I think base commanders are a little unnecessary for a Zoner government, especially considering the tiny populations. A good localised government would be the direct democracy / Athenian / town hall method. It removes the need for elected officials.

There are more Zoners out there than you know. Although many of us disdain organization and government, so you wont see us voicing up on matters of politics. Some of us were members of the Council of Zoners, and saw how little an "organization" of Zoners helps anything. In terms of the NPC's I would say that most Zoners go about their everyday lives with little concern for politics. They patrol a base, or ship some supplies, they dont care about anything more than 3 squares and freedom from governmental organizations.

No. The NPC behavior is hardwired into the game, anyway. The only thing we could do is change the reps for other people, and/or move the patrols around a bit.

And yes, even I have a Zoner character set - a rather pesky, independent sort of researchers that were out doing their thing exploring the galaxy looking for other places for Zoners to expand to when they ran across the Gallic nation and realized that they're out to invade Sirius and threaten the Zoner way of life. (I RP'd that and giving information to the TAZ with Doc several months ago, from my explorations of Gallic space and the special items I found while I was there.)

I think I've been misunderstood, probably because I did not explain my idea very well (and the fact is that it s not easy for me to do it in english). Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time these days to participate to this discussion (but I'll be back later). However, the main idea was that zoners community of players do the role of a game master for Zoners NPC, especially directors of each base not directly under a zoners faction influence.

So the idea is not to form a global zoners government. Each station will stay independent of the others, as it is right now. The governor NPC would not be use for personal interest of player character or faction. At the opposite, for instance, there could be tensions between F9 and F15. That I tried to propose is to define the geopolitical and economic background of each zoners base and create a NPC to defend zoners interests according to the base background.

Of Course another option would be that some player characters become governor of actual stations. In-game elections could be played as a special event.
