Just reporting smuggling isn't enough. You'd have to catch them (kill them with a screenshot) and post that, then perhaps the admins would consider doing the sanction.
im not sure that the admins are interested in sanctions AT ALL...
look here... im an outcast, i smuggle cardamine.. who is the admin to give me a punish??? im in full right am i not... if its totally against RP like a corsair with Cardamine i think they have a right to.. but for the rest... do your job as a police, make sure you have someone from every timezone to make sure you get the best patrol cover as possible... all you can do is making sure the smuggler cant make his dropoff... thus losing money, while he cant earn it... if you catch a smuggler, put him on a KoS list and dont let him dock the next time, even if he isnt trading contraband... leaving everything up to an admin is way to easy.. put an effort into it... and you will get more satisfaction:)
"War. War never changes. Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage."
I agree that admins should not have to be bothered with things that should be covered in RP, but I've not met anyone yet (not caught any smugglers on Disco yet, so I can't comment) that would happily part with the value of their ship when they get caught smuggling. That's my only point.
I've not seen anything in the rules about the size of a fine if you're caught smuggling. If I was nabbed with a hold full of cardi and I was flying in a transport I'd be worried if I was likely to lose the value of the ship as well as the hold full of goods. If it's just the goods, where's the scare in getting caught?
Is there is a server rule that you can be fined up to the value of your ship when caught (and I mean caught. Not just scanned)?
True, but I wouldn't class that as smuggling. Smuggling is (surely) the large scale transport of illegal goods. If you're caught doing that by the authorities you deserve the wieght of the law to come down on you. That means confiscation of goods and means of transport. Smuggling is fun when you're at risk of getting caught but you have the opportunity of great reward. Where's the risk in just losing your cargo. A few hundred grand tops probably. If you're flying a ship worth serveral million and you could lose it, THAT'S a risk. Make the rewards for successful smuggling greater and you have a reason to risk your ship. At present it's financially better to just trade. There's no real incentive to smuggle goods. With increased risk and reward I reckon you'll increase the roleplay too.
Yeah, but if your fighter is wasted in enemy territory, you should be dead. Dead, dead, dead. But most people escape in a pod or are rescued. This, whilst a touch unbelievable, is how the game works.
It shouldn't be different for smugglers compared to fighter pilots.
