He had no problem being in public for a long time, he didnt start hiding till people started looking to arrest him for rape. During the previous big leaks from Wikileaks, he was in front of every camera he could find, now that there are rape charges on him, he isnt seen anywhere. Coincidence? I think not.
You know, I already got used to from 5 to 23 political journalists being killed in one certain county per year. So I see no point in discussing abstract matters concerning the guy's problems. The point is that he's doing a good work with his WikiLeaks. You can agree or not.
I would like to point out that if a thing like Wikileaks was around during World War II was going on, there would have been no Lend Lease, and the Germans would probably have been much more successful. There is a reason that things like diplomatic meetings and intelligence is kept secret, and it's not only to stop sources from getting killed. WikiLeaks has pretty much pushed the middle east peace process back, as comments that moderate Arab leaders made about trying to push for peace have been publicized to the Arab public, possibly pushing the public in those countries to overthrow the moderate leaders, which will lead to more radical Islamic leaders to come to the front, further harming chances for peace in the area.
Ben, Dieter, for all the "journalism" in the past, government secrets such as intelligence and what was said in classified meetings with diplomats was never published.

The US defense secretary summed up the reality of it all from our (USA) perspective, here.
You do make a very good point Zelot. In the modern age, foreign powers are monitored from satellites and ISP hacks. And facilities damaged from simple computer virus'. What was the case before doesn't entirely apply now

Actually, good point.
But modern journalism is pablum.
Maybe wikileaks is like whiskey and heroin, ie, goes too far the other way.
The Laowai told it in the best way possible. Nowadays the big newspapers are controlled by the according governments. The journalists are very limited and the so called "freedom of speech" dont really exists.
Well I guess every secret/military organisation can forge a rape...
It is the oldest thing in the world to throw mud at your enemies or opponents, somehow it fits perfectly:
"He is rapist who should be in jail for ripe and be shoot for a treason how you can believe the facts witch he gave to you?"
Or something in this line of thoughts wanted to be nailed in peoples brains... and publishing propaganda in the same time...
Hell if you ever heard about the American army newspaper Stars and Stripes?
It is pure propaganda. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/W/WIK...EMPLATE=DEFAULT

In my opinion there always needs to be a balance between the free flow of information, and the risk of damage that the information presents. Wikileaks, takes huge amounts of government documents and publishes them with out any type of context or checking. Wikileaks does not have an editor or journalistic integrity to make source what they publish is even true, let alone whether it risks lives or important diplomatic relationships.
