Very good job on the Orca, not a fan of the current one. The revised Orca looks like a very formidable ship now.
Nothing pulling me to far in either direction on the Battlecruiser, but for the most part I do like it
The Battleship is alright ... cept for ... what the heck is that phallic antenna thingy? I am not ten, but it just isn't giving me the impression of a Battleship that I would want. Otherwise I think it is very good, not a master piece like the Orca but very good. I also think that lower antenna takes away from the very cool shape, very sleek, almost axe-like. But I do like the idea of antenna for long range transmissions.
Overall I like all the ships, they have nice eye candy. Some might find the complicated look not to their liking, but they look more like ships that dwell in space to me. Good detail, they are interesting to look at, which is a good thing. I would be happy if these replaced the current models, but at the very least use the Orca!
Ok, to be as constructive as I can, I'll lay out my feelings on these new models from a design point of view.
Mako
-It is not too 'boxy', and does look slightly basic, while it has a very city-like appearance, which reminds me a bit of Imperial wh40k ships (which is a cool thing), but less gothic, ergo fitting the BHG|Core perfectly.
-The antennae are a bit ridiculous, and IMO should be removed.
-It's 'boxy' angles are mostly slightly rounded, which gives it a much nicer frame and makes it look much easier on the eye.
-I like nose-heavy, but very sturdy look, which makes it look like it is able to charge head on into battle, and stand up to heavy fire.
-In all, IMO a very, very nice model, and one I would love to see in-game.
-It has plenty of detail, which counteracts the boxyness and makes for a very balanced look.
Bullhead
-Much more 'boxy', especially around the head, and it doesn't look too detailed (a nice feature of the Mako), which makes the eye concentrate far too much on the boxyness, which is not good.
-The textures on the fins are a bit too plain, and could perhaps be a bit more metallic.
-You seem to have done the opposite of the current Bullhead, which has too many windows, and put too few on it, it could use more on the head, like the Mako has.
-The big box in the middle (behind the head, in front of the engines and between the fins) needs more details of some sort, like the equivilent box on the Mako has, as right now it looks a bit pointless and stupid.
Orca
-It has too much going on IMO, less pipes and random fins sticking out of it would be a great improvement.
-The head is very curved, which contrasts the rest of it too much, IMO it should be a bit more boxy, along the lines of the Mako, and look the same all over.
-The general shape is nice, and is in keeping with the current BHG line.
-The pale grey textures on the wings are not very fitting, perhaps use slightly darker ones like those on the Mako's plates.
-The textures on the rest of it are a bit too grey, and would look better with the hull textures of the Bullhead or Mako (the blue-grey ones on the Bullheads head).
As it stands, as an avid flyer of both the Mako and Bullhead (semi-obligatory as a BHG|Core GM >.>), I say the Mako you have presented here is fantastic, and with the removal of the antennae would look truely spectacular, the Bullhead is also good but could use a few improvements (as I listed above). I would LOVE to see a Thresher and Bottlenose in the same design scheme, as I think this one fits the BHG perfectly.
In short, the Mako is amazing, the Bullhead is great, just needs touching up a little. The Orca does need a little more work, but is on the right track.
I think if you can make the whole cap line along this design scheme, a permanent BHG cap line has been found, as these are awesome.
Edit: Just noticed the third Mako concept, which is meh, not nearly as spectacular as the other one, and looks like a rather awkward combination of the current one and the proposed one.
' Wrote:I like the new Orca. I think I'm in the minority here, but I think it's actually truer to the BHG ship line than the current model.
Read back a tad mate. :)
about 90% who posted here think the proposed orca looks awesome, and fits the BHG line better than the Miami-Vice-in-space we have now
also, I see a new mako has been posted in the 1st post.
I frakkin love it. It's drop dead gorgeous. If that gets into the game, I can die happy. epic. just epic.
Hmm, second mako model looks better then this blocky one, reminds me on current one, but textures and some parts are similar to BC and dessie which is good thing, cause current mako textures does not fit with any ship from BHG shipline, look to advanced when comparing with rest of the ships if you ask me.
Love the orca, BC could use maybe a bit more details.
