I agree Marburg; Ive also tried to turn on people to British shows but they just dont get it. With the exceptions of Dr. Who and Top Gear. Also, they are putting Top Gear on History Channel in the next week with a cast of Americans. Since the BBC version's season just ended, Im HOPING it wont be awful...but I suspect it will. Still, Ill give it a shot.
It's a 6-part mini-series based on a book by Ken Follett and is set in England in the 12th century to the backdrop of the various wars of the time (namely the Anarchy), and the building of a cathedral. I wont bother summarising the plot because it would just be copy/pasted from another site, and be someone else's view, and it is much better just to watch it yourself. But suffice to say it is easily the best piece of television have have ever watched (with the possible exception of Generation Kill).
Yeah, ok, so...I watched the premiere of The Cape tonight & lemme tell ya, from a guy that expected an epic fail, I absolutely loved watching it.
I like it because it's completely absurd while taking itself seriously at the same time while being completely self-aware that it's seriously absurd & taking itself too seriously.
To me, watching it was just pure fun.
Kick back, grab some popcorn & go and watch that bitch. I'd really like to see this one stick around for a while
I avoided it until recently because I'm not a big fan of the sitcom...I get burned on 'em 9 times out of 10 'cause 9 sitcoms out of 10 are complete, unfunny crap.
I caught his one though one night when nothing else was on & it's so twisted I actually laughed out loud.
(for those that don't know already, I find just about everything funny in some way but I barely ever actually 'laugh out loud'...most of the time if I say I did, I'm usually lying through my teeth as most people do when they claim such things.)
But this show forces some real, honest-to-god gigglesnorts outta me.
It's about a kid who knocks up a chick before she gets convicted & executed by the state for murder & the kid is forced to raise the baby in the most dysfunctional family environment ever.
That in and of itself doesn't sound like much of a hook I know, but pick it up at any episode & you'll love it.
...unless you happen to be one of those weird freaks out there that don't understand dark humor.;)
