There are actually people who can miss with the Inferno!?
I mean, seriously... is that even possible!?
Only reason I use it is because it's nearly impossible not to hit... um... anything with it, actually. Even Libbies eat the 'Ferno...
That's not my point.
My point was that the penalty on your powerplant for missing an Inferno shot is simply too great when compared to Debs therefore it's not as energy efficient.
The fact that most people, as you claim, aim well with the Inferno has nothing to do with it.
It's grossly inefficient compared to Debs and if you miss, you lose all that power. With rapid firing Debs, a few misses won't do much to your powerplant. The Inferno was not designed to snipe anything smaller than a transport, make sure you use the right tools for the right job. A Mini Razor is much more useful in place of Inferno.
So the 380 m/s small projectile Mini Razor is for sniping fighters/bombers while the 550 m/s large projectile Inferno is not? Mind that both of them need large amounts of energy to be fired + the MR needs more skill to hit (unless you already have MR skills and are trying to switch to the Inferno).
Furthermore the energy-penalty of the Inferno usually can only apply as long as the enemies shields are still up since not many people use it to drain a bombers energy while almost the same penalty can apply through the whole combat when using the MR, yet a pair of debs will reduce your easy-hitting-hullbuster abilites since it allows less Krakens.
You are probably mixing up Sabre and Switchblade conditions here since the Inferno indeed doesn't suit the HF due to the smaller core. The Sabre however has enough energy.
