My sound stoped working a while ago i can still hear freelancer and some other games but i carnt here stuff off youtube or any internet application or Supcomp. I took my sound card out of its old slot and put it in a freeslot it worked for awhile but the samething happened again and moving it back to the old slot doesnt work. No one ive asked has any idea whats going on.
Well hopefully it's not a bad sound card, but at least that's a relatively cheap thing to replace.
If I were to guess, I would say you are using the wrong driver for your card. It may be that when you moved it around, windows automatically updated the driver and then messed it up.
Look for the manufacturer's driver on their website. Windows doesn't always certify the right driver, so Windows update won't even tell you about it.
Be sure and uninstall the device in your control panel. Reinstall it, and then when windows asks for you to locate the driver, pick the one that you downloaded. Don't let Windows do it for you.
Would my sound card be Creative audiogy proseser or the audio codecs? And how do i know which update or something to install? my driver has the words Sound Blaster, Audiogy, and Creative.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
Well, I don't know how fluent you are in computers, so I'm going to give you the "kindergarten explanation." Please don't be offended, I just want to make sure you get it fixed!
1. -Click START, then Right Click on My Computer. Click on MANAGE. In the window that pops up, about the fifth row down, it should say DEVICE MANAGER. Click on that.
2. -Okay, so now it should show a list of everything you have connected. Click on the [+] next to "Sound, Video, and game controllers."
3. -One of them should say something like Sound Card, or Creative Sound Card, Creative SB Card, or maybe PCI Sound Card... something like that.
4. -So double-click on that. It will open a new window.
5. -Select the third tab over called "Driver."
6. -Now click "Uninstall."
7. -Say "yes" when it asks you if you are sure.
This should completely erase any drivers that the card is using. Your system might say something like "unrecognised device." This is a good thing!
Looks like windows installed its own driver, if its a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy, you can google for Creative audigy drivers and download the install pack...
Simply install and let it do its magic thingy;)
Works for me, im using a 2004 driver ever since i got this one.. never had AN problems... just wont work with DX10, so im back at XP:)
"War. War never changes. Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage."
