gamma, minor, new york, all major mining fields... i saw combinations of ship / equipment / id / iff, i would never even dream of. unless i see you can work with your tools, i'm not accepting you as an equal. elitist? maybe. but i like the word 'cautious' better.
Funny thing is that the "elite" reserve the right to use exactly those ship / equipment / id / iff combinations you would never dream of, through their SRPs and white tech chart boxes.
There is one thing that always stops me from adopting an elitist attitude about DiscoveryGC or my "real life" here.
Its that this is a computer game intended for 13 year olds, and being "elitist" about that, or being elitist about any other stuff in a community which is based on that game, has this very silly feeling to it.

So I'd still be flying around with messed Police IFF if nobody had helped me. I would have stayed "that stupid Indie Newbie who has not idea and who is not worth talking to".
Sorry, you just presented yourself as a good target for criticism that is meant for a larger group of players. So no attack intended. =)
I dun like indies for two separate reasons. The first is practical - I believe in cooperating swarms and those are NOT possible to pull off without A- numbers obtainable by acting like a press gang and B- putting those you find in a skype channel so they get to know each-other and start working together on a regular basis. Result is steady numbers that more often than not obey you and therefore can compete with the overpowered equipment, people and RP you'll eventually end up facing.
The second one is a bit less practical. The folks who come over to play around aren't in all cases literate, easy-going, intelligent adults. Now we can accept it, because it's a free-to-play mod without much in the way of access limitations. Fine by server admins, fine by hosts, fine by devs, NOT fine by factionalized players who prefer to pick who wears their colors instead of completely random nobodies making characters pretending to be superawesome admirals of whole imaginary navies, dictating what's right (and which factions must obey or else) as-written-in-some-obscure-textwall-and-approved-by-[censored for the sake of not getting admin-nuked]-admins.
And the good indie people, those just wanting to play around, behaving responsibly without the need for some nazi chain of command, end up more or less knowingly protecting those complete twats, trolls, RUS))) and just-turned-teens just by BEING in the same classification.
' Wrote:If indies keep up the good work they can never be "punished" by the officials, so to speak. For instance, Cerberus had some little "problems" with the official Order faction, but as our RP evolved, we attracted many eyes and lots of positive impressions. If indies really want to enjoy the game without carrying of the server rules, they can go for the other nonRP servers, like the DoD, or the "Relaxed RP" ones.
Thing is... if indies respect the rules and have a decent RP with the officials, there wouldn't appear any problems.
Oh really ? Make a gallic Char and come and see in Gallia.
Then we will talk about official factions helping or considering the unnoficial ones.
For the metagaming stuff, i agree.
People act as people, being in an official faction doesn't suddenly make you fair and RP accurate, you're just in a group. I saw and see people defending their faction like their "piece of meat" even with other chars with other IDs
No, seriously, i'm more and more untrusty with this official faction stuff. Who decided about who must lead an official faction and for how long ? The official factions leader should be known by indies too and have relationship with them. This would avoid lots of problems.
We created a faction some times ago, unnoficial faction (GAUL), first we just wanted to play council ID faction with some exploration and diplomatic stuff, nothing more, just for having fun between us who didn't fit well with the official one.
The official one is not often here so we're put in first place: Interactions change, "allies" official factions like brigands change and developp, wich is normal but enter more and more in conflict with council ID, so you wanna RP it but as you're not official, you're just constantly ignored or provoced or asked to justify cause you acted and have no right for this. Surprisingly, the most welcoming faction is...the GRN ! :D
It's ok, nobody ain't gonna cry or die but it's just breaking fun to feel as an intruder, and on a RP server, none should be kicked for trying to RP. Even if the way he/they RP is not the one wanted by officials factions

when i was pirating in dublin, a battleship was siting there getting moaned at by offical baf a ensign i belive for wasting fuel and told him to move...and when he didnt he got attacked...which then the ensign got blown to peicies...was rather funny to watch lol
to me a offical fraction is a group of indes with skype no more no less hence why im getting skype and a mic soon so you can all hear my dead awful voice muhahaha
I couldn't really agree more. I have had on 1 occasion an [LN] Ensign try to convince me that I shouldn't be parked outside manhatten in my cruiser, and how I was "wasteing fuel" being parked there.
However mine ended up differently.
I started going on about how the engines we're offline, hence not wasteing any fuel, and how I was paying for this fuel load anyway so it was my money to waste. And also how that Manhatten is the capital of Liberty and surely deserves extra protection for both firepower and intimidation.
Depends on the attitude the other person shows towards myself, regardless if I am playing an Indie or an Official one.
If I as an Indie, offer my help to the officials and they reply in a reasonable/friendly way I will most likely behave like they want me to behave (not jumping into a fight; Helping them in a fight; Stopping a smuggler; Not stopping it;...). But if they just ignore me or try to give me useless orders, just to get rid of me I will pretty much do the same and ignore them.
If I as an Official Faction member encounter an Indie and he behaves in a good way that doesnt harm any others fun I will treat him pretty much like one of my own people and help him in every way possible. But if he decides to be a total moron I will most likely ignore him.
So, treat others like you would want them to treat you and nobody should have problems.
' Wrote:That's exactly how I feel. To me indies are either valuable potential members or completely useless, illiterate immature imbecyles, who got the (impossble to take away) equipment just because nobody could stop them.
I have generally had just as good interactions with Indies as I have had with faction members. Up in Corsair land, Indies represent the same number of seats on the Council as any of the factions. I have had the pleasure of playing with many many awesome indies. Some indies suck, some faction players suck, mainly some people suck, and it doesn't matter whether they are in a faction or not in this.
Perfect example, for as many sanctions for ooc and pvp violations as the CR have, one might think they are a bunch of Lolwuts, just as bad as any indy. I would counter that it's not all the people in the CR, and there is just as much chance of having a problem with a lolwut CR as there is in having a problem with a lolwut indy. It's about people causing problems, not indies or faction players causing problems.
Apparently I'm a smelly anti-indie bigot who hates factions.
WHO KNEW!?!?!

I give indies props when they manage to spell their names right.
As for faction vs indie relationships, the problem comes when lolwut indies do ridiculously stupid things and the factions get blamed for it.
Case in point, JunkersVs.Kusari, The [A], the Corsair Order thing, the lolwut BAFminers, complaints about the LN, all sorts of things.
All of these are independent players doing ridiculous things or contradicting faction RP, and then others assuming Factions control all, and thus they should be blamed for the ridiculous things and that all independents represent them, cuse its FACTIONLANCER, right?
