Note that changing character models at character creation is *not* clientside. The choice gets saved serverside on char creation.
Discovery used to have a choice of character models to pick at mod activation in FL Mod Manager back in 4.83. RHA still has a gunship that uses one of those old models, because the ship account carried on from 4.83. So it's one of the few characters (if not the only character) in Sirius that is not Trent.
This would definitely help immersion. But the fact that people don't usually stay in bars that long anyway, it's probably not worth the effort. Some mods do allow you to choose player character model upon activation, perhaps we can have this feature as well.

Best solution. And then nobody knows how to change the skin and nothing changes, no problems I see with that idea. ( I didn't meant this sarcastic )
I fooled around with the files in my Freelancer folder a bit.
-you can shut off Trent's audio by copying "nnvoice.utf" to "trent_voice.utf" in hte "audio" folder.
-in the "charaters/body" folder you can turn trent into a nomad squid by copying the "worm" file to "pl_trent_body". If you leave his audio on its highly amusing to see the squid talking and the guys saying "Nice to see you Trent".
-You can give Trent any other uniform by copying the files in the folder to pl_trent_body.
-if you try that with a female body it gives you a horribly deformed muttan with trents head.
-cant seem to get rid of Trent's head. Probably its impossible because he has different facial animations than other chars.
So that way I made Trent a squid and shut off hte audio to see how a removed trent would feel. The biggest drawback is that every character calls you Trent after the first time you met him, as the first thing he says when the dialogue starts.
The non SP storyline dialogue audio files dont seem to be easily accesible like the storyline ones. If anyone knows how to, can he tell me?
So if Trent was to be removed, you would also have to remove the first line every npc char says to stop them form calling you trent. Maybe it can be done without too much work by mayking a script to do that. It would also shorten the conversations, making them less annoying and making you watn to press esc less.
Still its less easy than I thought.
Giving yuo another chosable avatar than Trent would not be worth the effort imo, cause nobody else sees you anyway.

I find that its just more work for little gain in my eyes. While I think it is possible to alter the faces, but I feel that there is better uses of the devs time, or whoever would take it up.
Small details? Ok then give each thruster a different model (there is 3-4 or more thruster models), give different missile launcher models for each one, the torp launcher is actually only the torpedo model, the launcher model is unused, etc etc etc...details that could really make a difference, not that boring Trent.
