of course, since im a linux geek, i only use windows when i have no other option.
Wish I could say the same, but I keep an XP VM open just for messenger + Skype pretty much all the time. I used to only use Windows 7, but eventually got annoyed with it's excessive memory usage, so I dual-boot Ubuntu now. Windows partition is used only for games that need to be faster than I can get in a virtual machine.
Setting up Windows 7 is extremely easy. So is setting up Freelancer on Windows 7. Basically, during the installation of the OS itself you dont have to do anything. The setup automatically installs all of the needed drivers, and you are ready to go.
Freelancer also doesnt encounter any issues. Some people say you need to run it with admin privileges and whatnot (which basically involves right clicking on it and pressing "Run as Admin") but I just run it normally and it all works fine. The OS itself looks great and is easy to use. Basically upgraded Vista and XP combined.
Windows 7 Ultimate here.
Edit: Offtopic, FF is kinda annoying me as well lately, might just try the new IE.

"Excessive memory usage?"
How little memory do you have that it's causing problems?

4GB. It was using up around 2GB of that most of the time, and I couldn't work out what it was being used by. It started causing problems when I tried to keep too many programs running at the same time. 64-bit Windows 7 seems to use more memory than 32-bit, so I'm guessing that was part of my problem. The lowest I ever saw my memory usage go was ~1.1GB when I shut down everything I possibly could exception Windows itself.
