I would say that the ship could use some face lifting, the back and the body looks good but the front part is really bad. Good idea go for it.

Legate isn't a long range mortar tennis vessel. Proper legate you equip with nearly all basic battleship turrets, heavy armor, then cruise up to whichever target you want to unload on and chainfire half/half on the turrets. The power core of the Legate can support some 8 of these turrets firing continuously right after the cruise drain. Add a few Corsair turrets to the mix for times you have excess power.
As for the model. I rather like it as it is, although it's very large.

To be honest I don't like Legate, it doesn't fit into a shipline per my opinion. What's the worse, it has certain features which were never used in vanilla sair shipline (horns), but for now they're considered to be Corsairish.
Lore-wise, I don't think Corsairs who're often flying through asteroids and don't have excessive amounts of resources would build big battleship. Something Osiris-alike fits their goals way better. So what's better, multipurpose light battleship with 4-8 Titans (based on difference of resources usage with Legate), or heavy turtle battleship without any bonuses, which will be destroyed in a couple of minutes in surrounding asteroids?
Current Corsair capital ship lacks something, imo. Not sure exactly what, but even simply removing those horns would be way better. Furthermore I think all Corsair cruisers/battleships would originate from Osiris too (lacking research equipment, though, unlike the Order). It's simplier to design off already existing design, which's proven effective.
As for gunboat, I loved Lunchie. It was really kewl.
Overall, I'm not sure if Corsairs need capital ships at all, without organised goverments/militaries/other important for House bodies, which'll never appear in-game because they'll break balance way too much. Current improvised goverment isn't goverment IRP.
@ Curios.. I liked your model actually. Still do. As long as it keeps the original head on profile, maintaining it's strengths, I like it.
The Legate is a nightmare amongst asteroids. I like it's looks but do think it's a little on the wide side. Having said that, I've never flown any other (battleship) so I'm not 100% on that.
As for combat and whether the corsairs need a heavy battleship, I think the battle in Sigma 17 recently shows it to be valid part of the Corsair arsenal. Too many Osiris' at the expense of the Legate would damage the corsairs adaptability (and it showed there).
Also, the fact that the Ranseurs seem to jump out of the woodwork in huge numbers also demonstrates a need.
I can't speak much for battleships seeing as the largest thing I've flown is a Bullhead, but the Legate has always looked kinda cool to me. Yeah, a bit spiky, but alright in general. Now, the fact remains that the Legate is a cripple versus the ossie if the said ossie can reach the legate's blind spot, in which case the ossie outguns and outmaneuvers the legate. The ranseur is just... whenever I see that overgrown blimp, I go "wat". The sarissa looks MUCH MUCH better, but is obviously much inferior to the blimp so... I believe it needs a little size fix or the ranseur needs a remodel.
Sucks to be a weight on the wrong side of the brilliance-insanity scale.
