Instead of demanding whole 5k cargo ask for 3k? As after destruction a maximum of 3k will be dropped.
It's better to pirate Barge for 3001 than to destroy it and loot, profit wise. But who would skip on taking down completly defenceless ship size of three planets, blue message wise?

Killing a Barge is like an... adulthood test for each young pirate. It's something he'll brag about on the lower levels of Buffalo when playing poker with the veterans.
"You know, <generic libertonian name>, yesterday I caught this huge barge back in Cortez..."
"Shut up and play already!"
P.S. You want a roleplaying pirate? Would you be ready to have your ship hijacked, your crew kidnapped and possibly sexually assaulted (In case they fancy one of the crew members a bit too much) and then locked up on the lower levels of some pirate station, until the ransom is payed. Oh and the huge transport being disassembled by junkers in order to build more pirate craft?
That's my dream pirate experience, maybe without the sexual assault, though...
I wish people would stop referring to there being one type of ok pirate rp to have. Really it all depends on the character. Pirates in our game are defined as someone who wants to take cargo from someone else outside the law. Now that could be for a huge variety of reasons, they could be trying to supply their bases, they could be trying to make a political point, they could be trying to make money, they could be trying to ruin someone's day because they had a crappy childhood. There are more reasons than fish in the sea. Depending on the character, the motivation will be different, and depending on the motivation the action and behaviors of the character will be different. Some of my pirate characters are out to make money, so they want an easy flow of easy targets, they don't want to hurt them bad enough so they don't come back, but Ze'ev Barak is motivated by ideology and so he will always demand the entire cargo bay, even though he doesn't fly anything bigger than a bomber. He likes to destroy the cargo in front of the pilot's eye. To leave a message that they shouldn't return again.
All depends on the character. Hell back in Ze'ev's original Pre-AFA days, he would run an increasing cost, 4 million the first time you got caught, 8 the second, 12 the third and so on. Had nothing to do with the money, was all about getting traders to fear trading in Kusari. That was the goal of the character so his actions and behaviors advanced those goals. It's called Role Play.

When I've met barges, I make em fill me up (or one of my transports) several times or pay a large sum of their profit....
And about the 5k, if he does drop it all, he lives and we make more money. He doesn't? Then he loses his life, AND his cargo. We get a bit less, but thats ok, thats RP.
ALSO, avoiding pirates is kinda what traders are supposed to do right?
There's an insinuated don't blow it up in there, blowing up the cargo gets you shot in every situation. The NPC's that order you to drop the cargo also shoot you for destroying the cargo, stop trying to find loopholes because you're mad that you were stopped.
@Hielor he says you're good to go before he tractors in the loot? What a joke.
Also, roleplay is above the rules in "i'm a douchebag situation"
I would kill you repeatedly probably and place 100k bounty on you so people can blow you up on every occasion just for fun.
basically, the one with the gun can always be way meaner.
