Born on Planet New Berlin, Hans was a young teenager when he and his family were forced to flee to Liberty having been branded by the authorities as political dissidents. Hans had a brother Oberst, a few years older than him, but went missing shortly before fleeing Rheinland, and has never been heard of since. However rumors of someone matching his description within a Hessian underground resistance group were floating around for awhile. Life on Planet Manhatten was good for the Wolff's for several years and they began to prosper, getting a significant stake in a trading corporation, Universal Shipping. This ended abruptly however when both parents were killed in a mugging. The circumstances around the crime were suspicious and the police suspected involvement by the Rheinland secret police, but it was never proven. As a young man Hans then began work as a miner, both in Bretonia, and Kusari, finally having amassed enough wealth to buy a large transport ship of his own. For several years, trading commodities to the far reaches of Kusari space proved very profitable, until pirating within Liberty became rampant. Entire cargo holds were lost, and on more than one occasion, the vessel completely destroyed, Hans having to be rescued by friendly ships tractoring his escape pod. With his wealth almost gone now and being in-insurable, Hans decided to take the fight to the outlaws. At first, this was a solo attempt, being somewhat naive. Unfortunately, he proved quite inept as a combat pilot, but did gain familiarity with the local Navy personnel, who suggested enlisting in the Navy proper. Which brings us to present day...
