Hielor, not only backwards, um.. you can... shoot to the sides i guess? Which exactly is the only advantage of turret steering over rear view... but not a big one. As for disadvantages, you're steering with your keyboard, means you have less fingers to press other keys. Can you strafe [vertically aswell], change weapon groups, while holding thruster and occasionally hitting reverse, changing targets, toggling thruster and auto-level and finally hitting nanos when you're pants down and hear a snac - and do so smoothly?

With rear view fighting, you keep the targets in one place - behind you, which for many gunboats is the slim side of the hitbox to hit.

As in my original post, i stand by my opinion, that turret steering is a slightly inferior technique to rear view fighting when dealing with [color=#FF0000]-snub swarms-, especially bombers. Rear view fighting [at its best] allows you to remain in constant chaotic movement, while your accuracy does not suffer at all. Hitting a gunboat with a snac under these conditions is very difficult, effectively forcing the bombers to come ever closer, which translates to increased damage taken and not a whole lot increase in chance to hit.

Yes, turret steering allows you to be slightly more on the offensive side - you can turn around and follow the wounded snub for.. like a few seconds, in turn rendering yourself ignorant to the other attackers.

Rear view fighting in turretboats is a purely defensive technique, meant to minimize incoming damage in hopes of outlasting your attackers.

Turret steering is of course the way to go if you intend to fight other gunboats or cruisers.

Veygaar, your vague description of a combat situation leaves a lot of room for guessing. I might also add that not all EDGE pilots were aces.
