In order to have another RP community quite like what is here on Disco, you'd need a game that meets the following requirements:
- Multiplayer involves a persistent, server-based world.
- Allows individuals to host their own servers, and gives hosts and admins sufficient power to enforce RP rules.
- The game world can be altered to reflect an ongoing storyline. (Through modding or in-game mechanics)
There really aren't that many games out there period that meet even just the first two requirements. It's common to see RP groups on modern MMORPGs on official or unofficial RP servers, but the problem is that there are no public servers I've ever seen that have as rigid or well-enforced RP requirements as Disco, and thus most groups are limited to RP within their own group or with other like-minded groups. Plus you can't mod an MMO and very few allow private, self-administered servers.
That's why a lot of serious and mature RPers stick to older games. There's still a lot of RP communities within text-based games like MUDs, or older games like Freelancer or the first Neverwinter Nights, which has several active RP communities that are similar to Disco, such as this one.
I'm sure there's many here who would love to find a haven of mature, serious, and active RPers in a massive, dynamic game world free from all lolwuts - but such a Shangri-la just may not exist.
