If you were hauling artifacts, he should treat you as a friend. Every trader or smuggler I see hauling artifacts is a friend, even if he has a questionable tag. Obviously, some tags are out of the question, but I see mostly police tags, which I am inclined to ignore on a trade ship.
Even food, light arms, gold, anything that sells well or that the Corsairs need; I treat the hauliers of those goods as my friends. Not that I trust the pilots, but that they are probably on our side.
