And yet we give RP notice in advance just because it's the right thing to do -- not because we have to, but because it'd be fair to give that person's base a fighting chance.

Lets have a look at a scenario.
3 new guys decided t build a Base.
They spend a few hours building it and getting a shield built and a storage built. (during this time somebody has noticed and tells his friends).
The new guys decide to call it quits for a few hours to get something to eat and talk to wife/girlfriend/dog etc.
Bad guys turn up with 5 BSs and quickly post on the Forums (as this is a RP Server) and 2 seconds later open up on the Base. 12 minutes later 'Dead Base'. Bad Guys move ships away and log off to talk to their wife/girlfriends/dog etc. An hour later new guys log on and hey presto a magic trick of a disappearing Base has been invented.
New guys say hey its an RP Server after all and they did post. Nevermind we will spend another pile of hours redoing our work.
