KTA is fully aware of the Kusari Codex, Hyouge also is. But you should note that behaviour of this pilot was influenced by something else - he became more concious (and confused at the same time) after the artifact left the scene. Moreover, Hyouge was traumatised in Omicrons (while he concluded research onto Dom Ka'vosh artifacts with another character, Tsuzumi Mori), what I should put out into characters bio after I get back from UK.
(I was the mining vessel) I just want to state that the artifact indeed was just a harmless piece of crystal and metal with alien signs carved in. It had no real influence over anyone. I suppose it was a psychological effect due to the trauma in the Omicrons?

Hyouge, because of his military experience, wanted to blow hole in hull to get rid of the artifact (which could not affect the structural integrity - as he was aware of the very bad condition of the ship). Simply, he had too many encounters with artifacts that were active - just a back luck, if you asked me.
If it would endanger the structural integrity of the ship or not is my decision. And I definitely told that it would damage/destroy vital parts of the ship/the ship itself. The police officer did right with preventing it.
I really enjoyed the encounter though, people acting due to their backstory is always interesting. Kudos for that!
