"Listen, I need some time to clear my head a bit," he said kindly, his hands at her sides, "Emiko will be fine with the twins but she is looking forward to meeting you and speaking with you as I told her much about you." He paused a moment, "She's taking this very hard whereas the twins don't seem to understand." He kissed her and managed a forced smile, "I'll be at the house." With that, he put his hands behind his back and walking with Ashlea only watching no doubt.
As he walked, he shook his head. He didn't want her to see him sob so he never looked back. As he walked, he began to sob. Engaged to Ashlea he was but old feelings for someone he still cared about surfaced. He had given so much to save his marriage but it wasn't enough. "Why," he asked himself quietly, "why didn't you listen?"
He rounded a bend heading towards the house. His hands went into the pockets of his coat where his right hand fondled a small box. Still, he wept not for his own thoughts but for how his children must feel. Emiko emulated her mother and was almost a mirror image. She wanted to be like her but was very much a Daddy's girl.
The twins also had there mother's looks. They were close to each other and would often be found playing and chasing each other. Doc knew that he had his hands full and the construction of a new home took on much greater urgency. When he reached the house, he poured a glass of Gallic Wine and gave a toast to his late ex-wife. With his three kids, he definitely now had the best of Midori's offerings.
In the stable, Emiko was petting Gracy as the twins played in the loft. Emiko was talking to the horse she was petting, her face somber. "I feel lonely, Gracy. I miss Mom and I'm not sure Daddy will relate."
