First of all, thank you for your invitation to join and sorry that it took me so long to reply.
The reason I've asked to join your clan is very simple. I was a corsair since I've started to play this game, back in 2003. Even during my online play, for many years on a very good server, I was corsair right from the start, leading to a point (for a few years) the corsair clan on that server.
As for the background story, I'll start unfolding it right now...
823 A.S.
Crete, Omicron Gamma
The room in this infirmary was almost silent. From time to time there were moans of pain as the pilots treated here, woke up from the drugs induced sleep, asking for more painkillers. The light inside was dim but heavy, filtered by the polarized glasses of the windows.
In a corner of the room, sitting on a simple chair, was a small, but athletic girl, standing right beside of one of the beds. It was her daily check here. Same place, same time, same bed. Day after day for the last three months. "My daily incursion in the history of Crete" she used to say. "At least I hope so..." she thought more and more these days.
The old man lying in bed in front of her was her last finding during those long and adventurous flights in Omicron Gamma and Omega systems. She was exploring an area high above the system plane, near the jump hole to Omega-41, when the sensors picked up a faint signal. An escape pod!
Approaching only a few meters away of the pod, she realised this was a corsair manufacturing! The system was heavily patrolled by corsairs, even the remote regions, and findings like these were very rare to happen. But here it was, right in front of her. It was a mystery that couldn't be solved here in space.
She activated the tractor beam and turned her ship to Crete, full speed.
After docking the escape pod was transferred immediately to a medical facility. She was shocked to hear that the man inside was alive! Barely, but alive! After a few days of investigations, the doctors and engineers made a report, but she was only half satisfied. The escape pod was indeed corsair but they couldn't say who was the man inside. The man's DNA was corsair, but was not found in any military or civilian databases. The most shocking thing from the report was the age of the escape pod. Twelve years old!
Three months have passed but the man was still in a deep comatose sleep. His age was around 40, but he looked older, because of the beard and scars on his face, signs of a harsh life, no doubt.
Suddenly, the girl heard a faint whisper, so easy to mishear. She rose her eyes from the datapad in her lap and looked at him with disbelief.
- Rrr...um. Rrrum please...
There was no mistake now. He was awake.
- You're awake! I can't believe it!
- Rum please... he said now in a bit clearer voice.
He was in no condition for a dose of rum, she thought, but in the same time this could be his last wish... After a few moments of thinking she decided.
- Hey you! she shouted to the guard standing near the door. I need your rum bottle now! This man needs some rum.
- No offence, the guard said, but I'm not wasting my rum on dead people. Sorry.
In a second her look temperature dropped near absolute zero. In low voice she said:
- I can arrange in less than 24 hours that you will awake in a pleasure house on Malta, being a whore for the outcasts. You choose!
There were rumors around, about this girl, but he never paid too much attention. He thought for a few seconds and decided that it wasn't worth the risk.
- OK, no problem. And he threw his small metal bottle right into her hand. Keep it!
She removed the cork and gave the man a few sips.
- Thanks, he said.
There were so many things to ask. The order of question was not important, so she started:
- I know you must be feeling awful right now but I have questions.
- Where am I? he said with a circumspect voice.
- There's no need to worry. You're on Crete, in a medical facility near the spaceport. I know you're a corsair, we study your DNA right after I've find you.
Immediately he started to relax visibly. For any pilot this was the biggest fear, to wake up into an interrogations room, prisoner of a hostile faction and to be tortured to death for any information they could provide.
- So... Crete survived, he whisper.
- Err yes, of course. About which attack are you talking about?
His eyes became a bit smaller and fixed. And in that moment the memories started to flood his mind. For a minute he was unable to speak, going down on memories path.
- What year is it now?
- I don't know how to tell you this lightly, but I guess there's not such an easy way. It's 823 A.S. You're escape pod has drifting through space for twelve years.
After a few seconds he replied:
- Thirteen...
- No no, your escape pod was adrift for twelve years. All the analysis proved that.
- Radiations, he said in low voice. Radiations form nuclear bombs interfered with the escape pod computer and perhaps the counter malfunctioned.
- You mean you've fought in the Great Invasion of Omega Systems?...
- Yes, indeed. I was in the last line of defense for Crete when the last ship I was fighting exploded. All the ships, from Cruisers to fighters, were carrying nuclear and biological armed torpedoes.
- No, this can't be true. I never heard of such things. The Great Invasion was with conventional weapons only. This is what all the records are saying.
- Then you're records are lying. In the face of total annihilation perhaps it's better to hide the ugly truth. Panic, desperation... these are things you can't control so easy. But what is your name?
- Raula. Born here on Crete, 27 years ago.
- Thank you for finding me, he said looking in her brown eyes. Thank you.
- Tell me more. I realize now that all I know about that time are just fragments of truth. We faced total annihilation but nobody here knows that.
He closed his eyes, trying to remember despite the pain in the head.
- Maybe someday I will tell you the full story. What is important to say is that we were betrayed by outcasts. At that time a great alliance was formed between major pirate nations to resist against a coalition of three major houses. Bretonia, Liberty and Rheinland united their forces into an attempt to eradicate the corsair presence in Omega systems. With the help of outcasts and other pirate clans we managed to hold them, until they've found a way to Omicron Gamma. Before we realized that outcast betrayed us, showing them how to sneak their fleet into Gamma, they've managed to bring capital ships and fighters into our homeworld system, Bretonia and Liberty Navy attacking from Omega-41 and Rheinland from Omicron Theta. I was leading the battle group around jump hole to Omega-41 when my fighter was isolated by five navy heavy fighters. The battle was furious. After a hour of fight, my damaged ship exploded, taking with me in the blast the last of five attackers.
- What about the outcasts? They joined the attack alongside navy ships? she asked.
- I'm tired. I need to sleep...
He started already to fall asleep when she realized she didn't ask one of the most important questions.
- What is your name?
He responded after a few seconds, while struggling to remain conscious.
- My birth name... I don't remember. But my call sign is... Venom.
After taking out those words, she saw him fall into a deep, almost comatose sleep.
