I think Atticus Rockford survived because when he arrives, he says "I knew then that I was spared for a purpose." Also, you see his ship landing on a planet with the sleeper ship being dismantled (I think it was Manhattan because the ship later turns into the building that has the Liberty Flag in Manhattan). He could have just salvaged a Jump Drive from the ruins on Pluto, mounted it on his ship, and put himself into cryogenic sleep while he traveled to Sirius. However, when he says "That was 800 years ago..." after saying "I knew then that I was spared for a purpose." I think the developers just made a slight mistake. He probably made it and told everyone about the Nomads, but since they didn't come for 800 years, everyone forgot about the warning.
Darn it, I was hoping that Sol did survive. I really didn't see any reason for it to be destroyed. Why did the Nomads do it? Why would they just show up and blow up Sol? They obviously couldn't be living in the outskirts of Sol, because then they wouldn't have destroyed their home. Instead, they would just kill the humans and leave the star safe. If they were living in a neighboring star, they still wouldn't have been disturbed by the Alliance-Coalition War because the nearest star to Sol is still a couple light-years away. I really don't get why they would just show up and blow up Sol.
