To add to the above hubbub, all I can say is that Discovery - more than ever, although it's never really deserved the title - is a low-RP server trying to masquerade as a high-RP server. I have seen /tg/'s SS13 servers offer a higher standard of overall roleplay than you could find if you spent the same amount of time flying around on Disco. You have more ships with names here than you do actual characters - for most people, it seems like the character development process begins and ends at typing Firstname.Lastname and thinking about how exactly they plan on typing their engagement notice today.
This isn't entirely a bad thing, since the main causes of it like ooRP cliques and the game itself being about 100,000x more suited for PvP than being a roleplay platform ended up letting me get friendly with people who I still keep in contact with years after they quit here entirely, but I am still personally miffed that it took me so long to realise that finding anything of actual substance on Disco from a roleplay perspective is entirely dependent on good luck and/or knowing the right people. Dressing a PvP encounter up with a veneer of roleplay and calling it substantial is like garnishing a cake with lettuce to try and make it healthy.
With all this in mind, are you really surprised people prioritise the ooRP motivation of getting their hands on something shiny than getting some illusion of satisfying RP out of cookie-cutter banter?
