Hyun: Jacob, Sunny, and Hyun gather in the lab for the field test of the first batch of shock jelly. They stand waiting to put the strange fluid through its paces.
Sunny: Sunny rubbed his hands together. "So this is it... This here should work, right? No explosions this time?" He half jokes, though happy they were going to be safe behind protection this time around for the testing.
Hyun: Hyun turned toward Sunny. He did not appear to be amused. "We are so lucky that we weren't vaporized or evacuated then. It was a failure on my part. I got excited and didn't take proper precautions. I assure you that this time I will not make the same mistake twice." Hyun finished as he turned to the wall and flipped a switch. Metallic beams extended from the ceiling and floor to surround the vat. "This runs back to the Faraday cage. If the energy can't be contained it will be routed back out of the station. No more catastrophes."
Sunny: "Yep, that sounds like a good idea. Here's hoping this works. Hey... where is Jacob. I believe he wanted to come and watch the experiment with us."
Jacob: Jacob quietly walked over to them. "Sorry, I had a little argument some of the Altair's crew. I'm right here."
Hyun: "No problem." Hyun said as me motioned to one of the readout displays. "Could you keep an eye on the heat and energy coefficients?" He asked Jacob as he moved toward a panel on the opposite side of the viewing port.
Sunny: Sunny nods. "Well I hope it's fine with your crew. You made it just in time." He grins.
Jacob: "Got it." Jacob again took out his Datapad which he adjusted to show some of the test-results as well as display several important values during the test itself. "Just go ahead, I got it watched."
Hyun: Hyun looked over his instruments one more time and then slowly moved a slider towards a marked position called test. The fluidic compound moved slowly as a dull light could be seen in the center of the glass vat as power began entering the chamber.
Jacob: Jacob proceeds to check the values on his Datapad every so often while also keeping an eye on the experiment itself.
Sunny: Sunny on the other hand, looks out the window in anticipation. "What are the chances we get this one right, guys?..." He thinks. "Just imagine... if we get this right...."
Hyun: The light glows brighter as Hyun increases the input. He glances over at Jacob to read his face. For the moment everything seems stable. "15%" Hyun states as the slider moves.
Jacob: Jacob glances over to Sunny, "We will get this one right." His eyes than again locked on the Datapad. "Looks promising so far..."
Hyun: "50%" Hyun echoes. as a low hum fills the lab. the lights is about the size of a beach ball now and it is only intensifying. The auto shade on the view port kicks in to keep the brightness from wrecking Sunny's eyes.
Sunny: "Shoot... nice feature... forgot to wear shades or protection..." He laughs nervously. "Whats the percent now?" He asks anxiously.
Hyun: "52%" Hyun responds as the screen intensifies. Soon Sunny can only see the light and everything around it is black from the screen. "75%" Hyun rattles off the sound now making it hard to hear anything else.
Sunny: "HOOOLLLYYY SHHHIIII-" Sunny yells just enough over the loudness of the sound. He scrambles to the near closet to get himself some ear protection and gets 2 pairs for Hyun and Jacob. He points for them to put them on.
Jacob: "Let's just keep going, we got this one." Jacob yelled so he can still be heard as he keeps checking the values on his datapad, during the entire test he keeps talking to himself even though it's impossible to understand due to all the other noises. He takes the ear protection from Sunny and thankfully nods at him while putting it on.
Hyun: After wearing his ear protection Hyun returns to his monitor. "89%" he says as the meters climb.
Sunny: Sunny would walk over and see the meters climb up himself, looking as they reach very high levels. The room is rumbling with this much energy and sound and even the windows are shaking. "It's Close!!! REAAALLY!! CLOSEE!!!" He yells.
Hyun: "95%" Hyun says as a charge can be felt in the air.
Jacob: Jacob nervously kept tapping on his Datapad, "Come on, we almost got it..." He would look over to Hyun to confirm that his readings are correct, "Nothing that's too far out of the ordinary on my side!"
Sunny: "We're almost there... it's just about to reach it!" Sunny yells, seeing the levels moving up and down, almost at 100%. "Fingers crossed! ALMOST!!!!"
Hyun: "99%" Hyun says as the whole vat glows an intense purple.
Jacob: Jacob quietly watched the chamber in anticipation for the results.
Hyun: "100%" Hyun yells "We are going forward" he finishes.
"101%" He calls out as the meters continue to rise.
Jacob: "Should't we stabilize it!?" Jacob yells in a concerned tone.
Sunny: "101%? Are you sure about that? Sunny yells back, largely concerned but still trusting Hyun.
Hyun: "Give it a chance. I want to see if my theory is correct. And yes I'm sure my eyes haven't failed yet"
"105%"
Jacob: Jacob nods at Hyun while holding on tight to his Datapad, "Got it, let's see how this plays out!"
Hyun: "109%"
Sunny: Sunny in a bit more convern ducks down under a table for cover. "Do it!"
Hyun: "117%" the glass vat only appears as a ball of light. The sounds is deafening. All of a sudden a stream of light jumps from the vat and hits one of the metallic pilons. Hyun yells but it's inaudible with the noise. Hyun hits a button and slowly the light fade. As the noise receeds to normal levels Hyun exclaims "120%. We made it too 120% before it off charged."
Jacob: "So we made it?" Jacob again inspects the Datapad in his hand.
Hyun: Yup it works even better than we needed it too.
Jacob: "So... Now we just need to properly install it into the Station. Right?"
Sunny: Sunny's voice can slowly be heard from the corner. "Shi- Shi- Shi-!!! Are we alive???!!"
Jacob: "We are, and it went a lot better than expected." He walked over to Sunny as he still kept an eye on the chamber. "Are you alright?"
Sunny: "... Yeah... I'm alright. never better." He gets up slowly, brushing himself off. "But next time you guys gotta warn me we are inviting a star into the base!" He says and then after a moment starts to laugh. "Damn it... that was awesome!"
Jacob: "That really was awesome." Jacob takes a deep breath before proceeding to take off his Ear Protection.
Hyun: "Yes that was pretty cool now the only thing to do will be to put it into the forms and mount them on the rails. shouldn't be too hard." Hyun finishes as he follows Jacobs lead. "We should get started as the Mag-transformer will need to be installed next."
Jacob: Jacob again checks his Datapad, "The Guys on the Altair are still working on some of the bigger parts, but yes, that shouldn't be too hard."
Hyun: "Good to hear. Whats your estimate on the install time." Hyun asks. "this all has to go live at the same time or it could be catastrophic."(edited)
Jacob: "Shouldn't take to long..." Jacob walks up to the chamber as he continues, "I'll stick to you, if we happen to take longer than expected I'll tell you. But all in one we should be finished in a one or two days, that is if all the resources arrive on time."
Hyun: "Right hey Sunny how is that going?"
Sunny: Sunny was listening in on the conversation. "Yeah, those resorces... Hopefully you have enough at the moment. Soon more shipments should be getting in."
Jacob: "We got enough on the Altair for now, at least it's enough to keep up the process until the shipments are coming in, so don't worry about about that."
Sunny: "Still, shipments should be brought in on a regular basis, or else production may hault. I'll assemble a organized crew and see if I can get any other haulers in. Oh... do you guys think we need a hand with all this installation? We may need special equipment to properly mount all these things together, and that may require also some trained workers. Maybe I can send a message to Bretonia Mining and Fabrication. I know they helped us before."
Jacob: "Well, I already got a lot of personnel on our Ship, most of them are trained professionals. But still, any additional help would be welcome, I just hope that our affiliation with the Order won't cause a problem in that matter."
Sunny: "That's not a problem. Good, then... Ill have to contact them."
Sunny paused for a second and looked outside at what was once too blinding to look at.
"So Jacob... From what we've seen.... this is a -lot- of power we are dealing with. I don't know if human power cores can handle it... they may handle this much for a while but maybe not constantly..." He turns to him. "I heard you mentioned something about a nomad power cell? You think that will solve the problem?"
Jacob: Jacob let's out a short sigh as he nervously plays around with the device in his hand. "If we were to safely convert it into a Storage Device, yes, definetly. But we would have to move the research to a safer place, if the cell gets activated during the research the consequences would be fatal. Take a look at Omicron-58 for example... That's what the cell is capable of."
Sunny: Sunny thinks to himself and then nods in understanding. "I see... I suppose you will want to have this undertaking also made worth it to you." He smirks a little. "I know I am asking for much. If you agree, I'll be willing to help in any way I can so that we can to the research properly ... " He thinks for a moment some more. "Tell you what I will do. We'll finish the fabrication here for now and get it all set up to a certain point, then we can relocate. Before we do, you'll receive your first paycheck from me as a down-payment. 500 million sounds reasonable for the start?"
Hyun: Hyun pipes up "We can use the Suttakatta for that she is not the biggest ship but she is fast and can house the necessary hardware. We should take it to that one place we found during the jump Sunny"
Sunny: "Wait.. that might be... that's brilliant!!!" Sunny exclaims. "We would need to make coordinates to a uncharted system and all that crap, but if we do it there, we can at least contain the damage!"
Hyun: "Right if it goes up only those in the system will ever know about it."
Jacob: "No need, the Altair is the only vessel I trust for this task, as it is the only one me and my research team familiar with. And Sunny? We don't require such huge amounts of money, that's not why we're here. 500 Million sounds good, there's no additional paychecks required." Jacob stops for a second as he listened to Sunny, "My Idea was to move the research to Omicron Lost, but your idea sounds promising as well.
Sunny: "Well, your choice in where to go, but the uncharted system would mean extreme privacy." Sunny grins. "And that's kinda what we need for this type of work, isnt it?"
He thinks further... "Wait a second... we cannot jump the Altair, can we?"
Hyun: "Can the Altair mount a jump engine?"
Sunny: "From what I saw of it.... it can't at the moment..." Sunny says. "It would need to be updated to do that.
Hyun: "Jacob any ideas?"
Jacob: "I'm afraid the Altiar isn't capable of mounting a jump engine. We would have to make some modifications to it, that'll be our only chance. Omicron Lost would be too dangerous on a second thought seeing as it shows Nomad activity. We don't have the resources to protect the vessel from Nomad attacks."
Sunny: "And with all that nomad energy around, I bet it would attract them as well... It's probably suicide."
Jacob: "So we'd have to go with your idea, that'll be our best option." Jacob had looked out of the windows as he got lost in his thoughts for a few seconds, he then continues, "Yes, that's what we'll do. Once we installed everything on here we will start to work on the Altair."
Sunny: "Alright..." Sunny grins. " Lets get to work then. Hyun, get that gel stuff mixing in batches to be ready to be mounted. I'll be allocating space for this stuff and having the area on the station cleared and ready to be placed into construction. Looks like this is a great success."
